My last run of the day was Barkeater (well Echo to get back to the base) I actually skied it 5 times to end the day...they actually kept it open until 3 ish...oh and Mr. Anderson can we please thin the prickers on the powerline...I left a little blood on my next to last run

Barkeater... nice! Long, fun glade. I knew it had been skiing well on Sat, but never got there on Sun. I was at BR early, and the glades there were still roped. Not that that would have stopped me... but I knew the woods would still be a bit firm at that hour.

It's kind of funny because the first time I skied it I thought it was too low angle but the more I ski it the more I like it. I was on Sagamore first thing with my long boards and when it got mushy went up top. Lapped Rumor until it got too mushy for the GS boards, switched to my resurrected favorites and hit the trees up top...but I knew I wanted to head back to barkeater. Knowing it closes at 2:30 I just kept saying I will keep skiing it until it closes then back up top...well, it never closed and about 3:15 arriving back to the top of BR, the rope was up so I called it a day, rather than try to get up top...now...if the north chair was running....................
However as always...

Your wish will be granted this summer according to my (very reliable) sources. I've even heard that they may cut a new glade on BR.

Slap some bubble gum and duct tape on those Suds and you're good to go. You don't need no stinkin base.

Hey Suds, I saw a pair of demo 50's for sale (170cm) about a week or two ago at Aspen East near Killington. They were priced at $349 and were in excellent condition. If that's in your budget you may want to give them a call and see if they still have them. I would cry too if my Femme 50's looked that way! Especially since Volkl changed the whole wms line up the next year (biologic) and I don't like the ski so much since the changes. So now I have discontinued version of a ski I love. Drats! |

Suds could ski on two-by-fours.
Here's what I've got on Gore for the weekend: "Extensive grooming on trails. Cover is very good. Glades expected to open. 4 lifts operating: Gondola, Topridge, Straightbrook, and Highpeaks. Long weekend should be outstanding. Bring sunscreen."

Tahawus glade had so much snow as of last weekend - it's in a shade and traffic was light there last 2 weekends so it could hold longer then most. It's unfortunate that it'll be inaccessible... Oh well, let's hope this isn't last weekend for High Peaks Chair, they made so mush snow on Hullabaloo in late February, i bet it will not melt until June. Anyone skiing Friday, please post few words here. |

Not sure which mountain I'm skiing tomorrow. Any beta on either Gore or WF is appreciated. Especially... how many days of skiing are left in the slides. Use PM if necessary. I'll try to post an update or two during the day on the Twitter feed, that is on the "Connect" page: http://www.nyskiblog.com/p/connect.html I'll also bang out a TR, or some pictures, tomorrow night.

The slides plan is for Saturday. I'm trying to decide on tomorrow.
I REALLY want to ski Gore. I know I will have a good day. It's a lot less driving too. The reason to do Face tomorrow for me, would be if there's a possibility that tomorrow could be it. PDQ what do you know?

I just got back from Gore.
Arriving at Gore this morning was practically festive. There was a line of cars on the road like a Saturday morning in January. There were more people in the lodge than I have ever seen on a weekday at 9:30. People were happy that Gore had reopened, and the mood was electric. The snow is good and the coverage is holding up. Twister, Showcase and Wild Air started the day crisp and softened by 10. Little or nothing bare, but getting thin in spots by the 1. They have groomed out the bumps on Showcase, where skier's left is brown. Foxlair held up all day. Ruby Run is deep with snow. Sunway, Jamboree, and Quick Silver has a lot of snow, but was predictably soft by 2. Topridge got soft early in the sun. Some bare spots, but they were well marked. Fun to ski. Hawkeye and Chatiemac were excellent and soft bumps developed by noon. Tannery had that grabby Spring snow that puts on the brakes, but coverage was excellent. Rumor was nicely bumped with rocks showing on the headwall. Lies skied well. Best run of the day: Uncas. Lapped it 4-5 times. I had to leave at 1:30, so I ran out of time before I got to the Dark Side. I'll be there tomorrow. I don't ski the glades (yet), but the ones to the left of the Straight Brook Quad looked nice. I also heard on the lift that Chatiemac Glades were nice. North Quad and Burnt Ridge were closed.
If you are having fun, you are doing it right.

Great report ski2. I skied Gore today from first gondi til I came off the hill at 4:15. Started at the bottom and worked my way up. Still decent coverage in the trees up top. My two cents - If tomorrow is like today, ski the front, then Topridge, Uncas, Chatiemac/Hawkeyem Lies, Rumor and then the Darkside. Or in that general direction. By end of the day I thought the best snow was in the trees. Around mid-morning I ran into Chuck's Gang, and ended up in cleavage within minutes - my first time. You need to come with your A game. Or at least I did. I dig that shot. If you had any doubt about skiing Gore tomorrow hit it - it will be good. Or come to Whiteface and ski the slides. I'll post a TR from today late tonight.

From Gore:
"We had snow squalls from the base through summit on and off all day. High winds and 31' on top. Great skiing on groomers. Hullabaloo real nice. Lower Mountain best. Winds blowing up Uncas and Topridge. No lines at any lift."

I didn't see anyone skiing the Glades. Agree that Hulabaloo was skiing nicely. They have done a great job grooming so that you can get back to the gondola. I don't know if I would have called them flurries, though there was a brief instant, during our lunch, where we noticed it was snowing. Pretty windy! Didn't see anyone in shorts! ;)
|
We saw one guy walking in with shorts on trying to look super fly but we all know he was FREEZING!
|
I felt the cold there today more than I did many others this season (not sure why that is but that's how it was for me). I encountered some snow squalls that were pretty heavy for a few minutes here and there. Hullabaloo was great today. The mountain really was in great shape. I hope that it holds up for whoever is heading over there tomorrow.
