Gore skied a lot better today (Sunday) than I was expecting. Lower mountain was firm & fast but in reasonable condition given Friday's thaw and freeze. Upper mountain was pretty much scraped hardpack (at least what I saw), and needs some snowmaking attention. Holiday crowds were plentiful, but most should find a decent amount of terrain in OK condition. Certainly not the stellar packed powder that we've had for weeks, but at least OK. As for the glades and trees, the base is all there, but we need a 6-inch or more storm to get things going again.

You also need air to make snow, plus there are no hydrants on the water line. Not sure if you could work directly off the pipeline itself for water, or if you'd need a separate pipe. I asked MIke that question once, but just can't remember the answer. Anybody know?

Gore skied great today. A bit scratchy in tight spots but lots o fun.
A lot of cars there this morning, but there were a lot of people standing around for the race. Get it before the NCP/mix event on Monday. Harv, I saw you at the top of the double. Called your name and you looked at me, but then you skied away! Too cool for me I guess |
I was workin the work road along Sunway and the other XC trails today on my BC skis. Started around 10:30 and by the afternoon, there were a lot of sled tracks back there on the road and in the woods. Harvey and I exchanged trail reports via SMS. |

I agree Gore was primo. Some of the best snow was in some surprising places. Fuje very sorry about the confusion at the top of Lies. I'm sporting about 20/60 vision without my glasses, and I didn't know it was you. Zelda and I had and appointment with Neve at the base and we were late for it. You skiing tomorrow? Txt me. I'll post my pics in a couple hours.

Agreed.
Great Weekend. Trees were stellar. |
AB/FAV for those who enjoy variety, terrain and Cheshire Cat smiles. Catch it while you can, Ma Nature is pitching, watch out for her curveball! We need to continue to be slippin' and a slddin' , lefting then a-righting, if you like that kind of stuff in all kinds of weather. We deserve a dumper, if not two, before the sap really starts running...like 10 years ago.
So, there we be, glancing sullenly into the Straightbrook Glades from Quad, watching our sketchy cover dissipate. The smart money was on an early closing date, St. Paddy's even in peril, if only we could catch a break. Watch what you wish for; five feet the first week of March, two feet the second, another foot or more the third, and so on. Gore gets 109 inches in March, 2001, Killington gets 130 inches, oh darn. Is this the season to replicate that last Epic one? Hard telling, not knowing. Keep riding up and sliding down, repeat as often as you like, I certainly plan to. Just saying. . |
I didn't ski today but if you include Friday(EPIC), this was probably the best weekend of the year(well at Gore anyway). 64er, that was beautifully put, we need positive vibes!...but tomorrow...Armageddon, ahhhhh but we will recover
Proud to call Gore My Home Mountain
Covid stole what would have been my longest season ever! I'll be back |
speaking of recover - March is starting Tuesday, does this mean end of snowmaking? |
Gore looks to have got hit hard with freezing rain? Any reports?
|
An inch or two of sleety glop here at shaman hq. The rain we did get after noon, was a light mist so it just consolidated our base even better. Temps barely got above 32 and there is cold gusty wind blowing now
Bring on the next big dump!

Well today started out to be a pretty casual day as I missed yesterday so I figured it would probably more a day of exploration. You know check things out and see how the woods made it through the muck on Monday. So we started out with upper newts to khs, which skied pretty well. From there we hit darby au naturale' to minehsaft which again was pretty good. After coming round the barn again, we decided to go check BBA. Oh and by the way it was puking snow the whole time!
As we pulled into BBA, the snow subsided and the sun came out to show a slightly thicker crust down here, but still not bad, just makes you a little hoppy! After a quick break at the saddle, we headed down to the gondi, and hit Chatterbox on the way. Fast hard bumps, but not really icy, just firm. As we got off the gondi, we hit Killkare, and it was similar to Chatterbox. As we came up the chair, we decided to check out Flyin' Squirrel, and oh boy things turned better!! The snow is deep everywhere, especially at the summit, and it skied supreme! Creme on La Creme'! Next up was Cleavage and the busom was just as it should be, Delightful! Oh and by the way it was puking snow again! And finally because good things come in 3's we hit 3-50 to end out an incredible day! Sorry for the overuse of the exclamation marks, but some days are just better than others!! The Shaman PS about 4-5" of snowfall total for the day!

Sounds like a ton of snow and windhold today.

Confirmed, a ton of snow. But today (Tues) was a total contrast to Monday, with bluebird skies and no wind. Trees were in absolutely stellar condition today, surfy and bottomless. The snow from this storm bonded well to the trails (at least the few I skied) and should really help extend the season. More pics and a TR here... |
unbelievable!!! More than a foot of fresh and dumping hard all day!
If you weren't here YOU MISSED IT!!!!

The road to Gore from W'burg maybe flooded. I believe at least the river road is and they said something about the Hudson river bridge having a foot of water on it. Chestertown area is also experiencing some road flooding. Not exactly sure which routes are flooded.
