I skipped that but enjoyed my first ever time at Gore the AM was great made my way up top spent a couple hours up there then later in the day the temps made conditions strange I opted out. Spots skiied fine but then it was like whoops what happened as the skiis just sorta slowed unexpectedly.

Saturday was great, much better than I had expected. Of course that seems to be the theme for the season - I've probably said that a dozen times this year. We couldn't make it back for Sunday, but it must have been full-on spring conditions. Rumor wasn't open on Saturday, those pics above are pretty dramatic with all the rocks. Honestly, i think it's amazing Rumor got opened at all this year with no snowmaking. Hoping for at least one more weekend at the mountain...
My report and pics here. |

DO IT CONDOR! Haha I was standing next to you when you took this. Solid day on the mountain, but I definitely agree with randomly hitting slow spots. Later in the day it was best to stay in the shadows. Corn, but grabby. I had a few really fun park laps today. Rumor was good, too. It looked much better looking down on everything that looking up. Except the ski patroller who was yelling at me and taking my pass. He didn't look good no matter which way I looked at him. Until he gave it back an hour later. |
gotta get yourself a team jacket

GREAT weekend on the hill. Thanks again to the snowmakers and groomers. Their hard work this year is really starting to show (or not show in the form of brown/rocks). Gore got it right this year hitting certain trails over and over and leaving others untouched. The trails that got the most snowmaking still have great coverage. We mostly stayed on the front side both days as we had another couple with us who have a 4 month old and were trading off babysitting duties. They wanted to max out vertical so we lapped the adk express and the BR quad. Hit all the trails off both of thos chairs and they were all nice. Lower sunway has a few brown spots, but other than that the coverage was really good. We did go up top on Saturday for a few runs. Cloud/Headwaters, Open Pit, and Lies were in great shape. Hawkeye was probably the worst of the trails up there (that got snowmaking) but even it wasn't too bad. Uncas looked real good too. Topridge had a good amount of brown/boulders poking through.
Lots of Canadian flags out around town. Good to see the local businesses embracing the visitors from the north. If you didn't know, the big Rusko Canadian group is in town this week. That means more of the mountain should be open midweek (than normally would be this time of year). It also means more traffic with warming temps. The rumor we heard on the hill was they would be open every day this week through Sunday and then shut down next week M-Th. Then hopefully open Fri-Sun (23-25). After that it is a crap shoot. If you can get out there during the week this week, do it. It was great having a beer in the sun on Sunday afternoon, but also very depressing knowing the mountain won't look the same the next time we are there (23-25). Hoping that they can make it till then. Boy we were spoiled last year. The mountain was in far better shape in early April than it is now. What a difference a year makes. |

The day that the Rumor first opened (2/26), it was awesome with deep powder and pretty good coverage. I hit a few rocks under the surface but I was happy that they even opened it. |
things did get cold enough to stiffen things up. started down uncas first run very firm & loud .rode up lift 7 only headwaters open everything had a sheen ,stiff.thats why the gondi was busy .headed down for a layer, bottom skiied well soft top firm base.made runs on the north pretty good. headed back up top, patrol dropping ropes on darkside also skiied well. went for a fresca at the saddle.headed to lift 10, best run of the day.never made it back up lift 7 tho they dropped the ropes on hawkeye & lies.burnt ridge is done patrol took tower pads down packed up shop over there.getting pretty thin every where.woods are done .closing during the week next week ,hard to believe they will make it into april.sounds like a good wkend for a cookout up top!

You must've missed the memo, that was last weekend! I think Sunday will be round two, though! I think I'll be back at the Tele gig for a few runs tomorrow. |
Thanks for the update freeheeln. Bummer to hear that BR is done. I thought everything over there had enough coverage to make it at least till this weekend. Cedars was a bit soupy Sunday afternoon, but not terrible. Hoping the north side/darkside (and the rest) make it till the 23rd.

Made it over to Gore this morning. My first run was Uncas around 9:30. Uncas was in great shape! I was able to sneak in a couple of runs on Hawkeye and Open Pit and I took a run on Hullabaloo, Cloud, Foxlair, Sunway & Quicksilver. Things were nice and firm the first half hour or so and then they started loosening up quickly. Hawkeye's headwall is pretty beat up but it can still be skied by many. The Darkside is in pretty good shape, Open Pit was in very good shape and Hullabaloo was in good condition too. Foxlair and Quicksilver were in good shape also. Sunway and the base were pretty slushy. It felt kind of cool when I first got on top but the temp rose quickly. I had things to do today so I had to leave just after 11 and it started to pour. I'm going to give Saturday and/or Sunday another shot but I have my doubts about anything after that.

The skiing got very good after the rain stopped around noon. I would advise getting out this weekend or you may be waiting until next season.

Darksided-
Sorry to read that the skiing wasn't very good; one man's trash is another's treasure. Looking forward to making turns Friday and Saturday with "Just More Gore Trash". Then we take it on the road in search of White Mountain Frost Heaves. Happy Trails To You, Until We Turn Again. 64ER |
Um... I'm pretty sure I said it was good. The snow is leaving us quickly, unfortunately. I am hoping for a great weekend at Gore for you and I both.

Skied this AM with DenisN from the site as we both were instructed by Kathleen and Gail in the Mogul's camp. Great cloud cover protected the lower mountain and kept the snow from getting too mushy! Many people were lapping Lies and the top of the mountain was the place to be. Uncas has good cover and Hawkeye as well. Surprised to see Top Ridge open as it
Is very thin. Ruby Run and Headwaters have good cover and the bumps in the Arena are smaller than last week, but they are still there! Never made it over to the Darkside. I'll be in Windham tomorrow for an Irish dancing event with my daughter Sarah, but we hope for one mor weekend. Temp at the mountain was in the low 50s |
skied saturday. normally, these were the conditions you see april 17th, not march 17th. it will be difficult to stay open next weekend IMHO. i didn't see a lot of snow available for comb-overs at crucial spots. i can't get over how short the ski season was this year. essentially, it was jan and feb with half of december and march.

Sun and Slush. Love it.Darkside was the way to go. SuzieQ had a bad arm so no exploring Oh and by the way can you say sunburn.

Got 2 1/2 hrs in this morning. I agree that the Darkside was the place to be. All in all as much as I give them credit at Gore the mountain is hurting. This week's forecast looks grim. I love to ski and get the most out of the season but I feel like it's being forced at this point and I'm on the verge of just calling it a wrap. I'm thankful for the skiing I got in and I should just leave it at that. That said, when I hear that Gore is opened on Thursday I will probably find it hard to resist.....
