If trails are still mostly wall to wall and it stays "very cold"....

NWS forecast for Gore:

I think you could have have the east side pretty good, mostly resurfaced by Friday.

This is where the new guns shine.

The ratniks could put down 12 inches on Showcase in 24 hrs.

But the new HKDs can put down 4 inches on 2 or 3 times the amount terrain, for less money.

It's super silky when cold and legit up to about 28 degrees.

I bet a donut that over the next 5 days Kenyon's guys will figure out how to get the most out of the gear and money they've got.

(Hey Mike let us ski under the guns!)

From Gore this am:

We started making snow last night at 8:00.

Doing Sunway, 3B, Ruby, Foxlair.

Adding in Pine Knot and starting Twister.

Heading to summit after Pine Knot and spot patching east side as we finish Sunway...

Hullabaloo Wall-to-Wall

Saddle, Git er done

Did anyone hit Gore today?  I will be there on Sunday so I am interested in what the conditions were like.

Which trails do you think snowmaking will be expanded to after resurfacing of the open trails is complete?

They need to get Burnt Ridge very soon, or they will have an entire pod closed for the entire Christmas week.  That will not be good for lift lines.  I am assuming that it will be next on the list.

We skied Sat too.  Could be a lot worse, could be a lot better too.

Lodge was packed and cars were parked way down the access road.  At least that helps out the bottom line.  Lift lines weren't a problem at all.  The gondi line looked long at times, but in reality it was no more than a 5 minute wait.  HS triple was practically ski-on as were all upper mtn lifts.  We missed whatever situation caused the lift line at the High Peaks chair.

Trail count is good for this time of year, surfaces were so-so.  In light of last weekend's thaw, conditions were pretty good, just not all that inspiring.  I thought the damage from the thaw was pretty alarming.  Here's a pic from the North quad, around 2800 elevation.  Ground is almost bare.  Glade skiing is a long ways off.

Bottom line is we won't bother to go back up today.  Here's my tr and pics.

One thing that made Sat fun - we took three of Daniel's friends (all brothers, grades 4-6) with us, so Beth and I basically ran our own all-day Mountain Adventure program for the 5 kids.  I don't think I'll be giving up my day job.

Saturday was SO crowded and I do consider crowds part of the conditions. There currently is not enough open real estate to accomodate all the skiers. That being said, I hope the mountain ca$hed in.

Skiing was so so, but it was skiing and that's a good thing.

I was suppossed to go up this morning, but had a last minute work issue. Blah. Hope everyone up there today has fun.

Tough day…lift problems, holiday crowds and bullet proof conditions. I quit at lunch.

I just texted a buddy who went today. His one word answer was, "sucked".

Best day of the year hands down especially on the upper mountain.  Easy 6 inches of fresh snow and first tracks on Lies...maybe the best run I ever had at Gore.

It was pretty good this morning up top. "Best run ever" just means you must not ski Gore very often.

Guys, no need to argue.

Best day ever at Gore + untracked Lies + $20 bar tab is still just a 4.6 at Whiteface.

Update from the mountain at 10 am.  Skiing is good and no crowds. Pretty cold.

I chuckled.

While I'm a little perplexed at the, uh, awesomeness rating relative to other days, it DOES looks like a pretty sweet time, much better than I would have expected.
