Since I got the book out to look up Virgil, I went ahead and flipped to the North Creek section. Thought somebody might get a kick out of this too

This is awesome.

Skied Gore yesterday from 9:30 till 3:30 with temp at 8F early and sunshine giving ways gradually to high clouds around 2:30. Temp was 18F when we left.
Snow was super nice in morning on all groomed trails. Showcase was showing a few worn down grey patches later but still very well covered.
Snowmaking on Echo kept us away from Burnt Ridge as it's a long time to get back with Echo closed off.
Best were wild air, tahawus, showcase (early).
Hope any rains stay away this weekend and more snow keeps coming.

Those trails are still there.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Ok, I’m getting close to my go-no go decision. What’s happening at a Gore? Anybody there today?

I am on a maybe line as well.  Skied today best trails were Showcase under the lift and Sleeping Bear...that says it all.  Early is best on these days.  Please ma Nache White Not Wet!

We skied also.  It’s grim.  A lot of boiler plate, scratchy stuff.  Best run for us was Uncas to Tannery.  Uncas skiers left was very good (relative to boiler plate).  We bailed out at around 1:00 when it started raining.

I completely understand the weather challenges this year.  But, there was a lot of chatter from Gore last year about all the improvements in snow making capabilities, guns, pumps, capacity, etc.  All that being said, it’s January 25th and there is little to show for it.  Not a gun to be seen on the Rumor, Chatiemac barely skiable, and at that only from the Hawkeye crossover.  Hawkeye’s headwall is scraped down, and has been for weeks.  Sagamore, barely covered.  I see thin base everywhere.

Unless something dramatic changes in the weather patterns, and/or they start blowing all the snow they said they are capable of blowing, it’s going to be a short season.  At this point, the way it’s going, if I get my boots on in the Yurt, it will be a miracle.

Despite all the challenges, there appeared to be good attendance today.  Cars were parked down the access road beyond Lot G.  They must be making money.  With the limited snow making it doesn’t appear the State is investing a lot into the mountain this year.   Maybe they have to pay for all the improvements?

For what it’s worth, it’s snowing right now at elevation 1,650’ in Johnsburg.  It was hostile on the Summit at noon, I’m sure it’s snow up top.  We’re going to give it another shot tomorrow.

The Adirondacks don’t roll over easily, they’re putting up a fight, trying to hold onto winter.

A lot of the snowmaking concentration has been on Wild Air. While other trails are thin and only 3/4 width , Wild Air is filed in and whales up!
Want to spend special time with your children, teach them to ski or snowboard. The reward will be endless!

They are having someone come in to build a course on Wild Air for some type of competition (forgot name) for beginning of Feb. All of the old features on WA and Pot Luck are gone.

Radar shows a hole but looks like there could be a bit more tonight.

Still snowing?  Could use a report from the hill tomorrow, if so inclined.

The mighty Adirondacks delivered.  Gore was treated to 4”-6” of nice bonding snow.

We skied big today.  Double Barrel, both barrels, Lower Steilhang, Upper Darby, Hippie and much more!

As the day went on the mountain continued to ski great.  Still lightly snowing on the summit late in the day.

Miracles do happen!

The Mighty Adirondacks

My advice, if you can get turns in tomorrow, do it!
