They could use the extra money to pay for a sign showing how to load the express quad. |
Haha!!! Think about how much money they spent on signage this ski season for all of their mountain biking trails that are now ski trails. Plus, all of the connector trails that now have names. Given that they don't have snow making on the newly designated trails, they will rarely be open, so they can advertise 50% of their terrain open. What a great marketing idea! |
IMO skiing on the MTB trails is an accident waiting to happen. Probably a bad one. They aren't glades, they're single track downhill trails that will get turned into bobsled runs with deep troughs and no place to go except down the track. |
I couldn't agree more. The rationale was that individuals were skiing them anyway, so why not make them trails in order to boost the trail count. Well, the challenge with that logic is now that they are named trails, when an injury occurs, it turns into a liability. |
Skied this morning. There was a nice steady light snow before the warmup. The same trails were open that were open this weekend and conditions were just as good.
They were starting to setup for snowmaking on Hercules and the lower section of Zeus. I totally agree on the mountain bike trails. With only one line down, they get scraped off pretty quick down to bare ground. Very few options to make turns if you need to dump any speed. IMO, a true glade should have multiple line options down. Looks like the shed by the deck is going to be a Waffle House soon.

Speaking of signs....I like the idea of a Waffle Cabin. I've been to other ski areas that have them. In fact, I frequent the one's at Killington on occasion. Now they just need to figure out how to draw back in the crowds to frequent their ski area and dining establishments. It's good to hear that they are gearing up to continue snow making. It's going to be warm with with some liquid precipitation this week, so hopefully the damage will be minimal. |
I have to admit that after the last couple of seasons I don't have as much of a desire to go these days. It's the first time in 10 years that I didn't get a season pass for my son or me due directly how GP appears to have taken skiers in general for granted. Every season we hear about the improvements and such but it doesn't matter in the least what the improvements are if the management is unwilling, uninterested, or uncaring to actually utilize those improvements.
Many of us "get" that operating any kind of resort area that's dependent on mother nature is a risk. But short seasons, closed lifts, closed trails, short staffing, etc tend to make a number of people decide to spend their disposable income doing other activities. When I told some coworkers about not getting passes this year they had also made the decision not to renew. In the end that's 5 season passes that GP lost due to how they have not served their customers. I hope they're able to turn a corner on things because I DO really enjoy the hill when it's open but the value just isn't there these days. |
Buy a sled and you wont have to worry about any of that crap
With Hope Lake Lodge being right on the trail system I would think GP could pick up some lodgers by marketing a little to snowmobile clubs. |

Holy Smokes! Interestingly, the first three on the list are great family areas. |

Wow it must be true. I can cancel my trip to Colorado. |
LOL
If it's on the internet you know it's true! |
I love how all of the photos are ski related, but the picture associated with the 4 CNY areas is of a bridge.
I realize this is a ranking by Readers Digets, but none the less, it’s good, free publicity. |

I totally didn't get that either. Is that bridge more famous than Elysian Fields?

HaHa! I don’t even recognize that bridge. |

Scranton, PA???..... Maybe if your heading to Elk from there. I like Montage for it's lack of crowds but it's not even in the top ten in PA. Keystone???.....Maybe if you don't mind little Johnny getting run over by an out of control snowboarder from Texas. There isn't a worse place to ski in CO. |
LOL --- crazy, ain't it??
So much is wrong with that article. Only one of the ski hills mentioned is in Cortland County and I'm 90% sure the mystery bridge is in Upper Lisle on the Otselic River and not in Cortland County or the Tioughnioga River. Does anyone know for sure??? |

I used to like Keystone back when Ralston Purina owned it. Now, under Vail's ownership, they have increased skier visits so much that the place is an absolute zoo. Of course, Breckenridge isn't any better. |
I just viewed the GP webcams, and it is much uglier than I thought out there, with another half inch of rain expected today. There also appears to be quite a bit of snow loss, and Gridley Creek is flowing rather high. I'm now rethinking my plans for this weekend. May be best to play it safe and head to Killington. Such a shame!

Wow Readers Digest!? I used to look forward to having that and Boy's Life come to the house every month! I'm surprised they made it this far in the digital age, they should stick to short stories!
