No crowds whatsoever today. There is clearly a singles line at the quad now, but the line was never more than 3 deep. No scanning going on either.
Conditions were awesome today. Everything skied great, with the exception of Illiad which was a little icy. Fields had a nice coating of gun powder on it! Gun powder all down Stoic as well. Piles of snow all down Cristys Run waiting to be spread. There were also lots of piles on upper Mars and Poseidon, so I would anticipate Mars Hill opening up for the weekend. There was a decent amount of natural cover all the way down Labyrinth and Olympian seemed to be well poached over the weekend but not skied off by any means. I’m heading back tomorrow, upper Atlas had some nice powder on it, maybe a short hike will be in order to get to it. We’ll see.

Thanks for posting the photos, Joneski. Those are some impressive piles of snow on Christy's. That's also great that they are touching up the Fields and Stoic, as there was likely not much of a base on either trail.
I'm still at Killington with -8 degrees at the base. Going to wait a bit longer before venturing out. The next two days look a bit more tolerable, but will likely head home on Thursday afternoon, as they are calling for -7 Thursday night, -21 Friday night, and a high of -13 on Saturday. It's great snow making weather, so can't complain, but my poor body can't take much more of these temps. |
I was back for some more today and it was just like yesterday, but better mainly due to the fresh couple inches of lake effect last night. I skied right onto the lifts each run with no wait. Snowmaking was concentrated on Alcheme and Pollux. Imo they’re about 1 nor’easter away from being 100% game on!
Earned some turns on Upper Atlas. About a foot of powder up there! Snow piles on the upper portion of Castor are all smoothed out. Are they planning on running chair 2 soon? Great conditions beyond these signs as always. Surprisingly good coverage on Labrynth, also on Olympian. Time to drop some ropes???

Looks gameon-ish for sure.

It says something that we think of less than a 12" of unconsolidated snow as "good coverage" - especially in the woods. Take your rock skis if you're going in there. |

Hey we are NY skiers right? Isn't there some kind of crust under there from 12/23? How much fell since then?

LOL - I was going to say the same thing. It could be much worse. I'm thankful we have what we do and they're calling for more this week. There easily a foot out there. We''ve been tip toeing around on sleds because there really isn't any base of natural snow. That rain just before xmas wiped us out (natural snow) ---- I'm hopeful that whatever we get this week will put us in prime time |

That was such a fun trail when it was open TTB |
It’s still a fun trail TTB, just a little tighter in a few spots!

I skied plenty of trees and natural snow areas both Monday and Tuesday without adding any new gouges to my ski bases. Most areas seemed to have some solid crust underneath about 8 to 10 inches of powder.

Anyone ski today?? It had to be good with this snow falling
|
Did anyone hit Chair 5 today? I had to leave early and just stayed on Iliad and Fields, which were lots of fun, although a bit chilly.)
|
I went today. I didn’t get there till after 1 and by the time I got up to the top of Mars Hill, it was closed! They had it listed as opened in the ski condition though. By any chance was there a breakdown on chair 5? Anybody have any info on that? Otherwise , the mountain skied pretty awesome! No pictures from today.

I parked at 5. The TCSC was setting up their tailgate there but the lift wasn't running. The lift attendant said they were working on it at the top. Waited 20 minutes and it started...after a lot of starts and stops for 25 more minutes they waved people on...rode once and skied down Mars, got on again and it slowed to emergency speed. Lots of people had come over from the other side and they ran it until they got them back...and then closed it for the day. I skied the front side for the day which had great conditions and was the last car in the lot for chair 5 when I left at 4. Chair 2 hasnt' run all season...wtf is up with that? Chair 2 and 5 down? Campy I know you love the place but that's shit. And GPP - I'll ski with you when you get the lifts running. Being a nice guy doesn't fix lifts dude. Again - GREAT conditions on the runs that were actually accessible today. Oly was fantastic. |

Too bad about chair 5, and I can't believe chair 2 has yet to open this season. That is pretty sad. They make all that snow on Castor, and then make customers pole across the top of Epicurus or Marathon in order to get there. Definitely not good for beginners or customer perception.
I didn't ski this weekend, as the cold weather did me in up at Killington. I'll likely head to GP later this week. Is GP still making snow, or have they pulled the plug? I know Hercules is usually on the list. I wish they would also hit Zeus, as that trail can be skied under the lights (at least the few lights that are still working on chair 4). |
There was no snowmaking going on yesterday when I was there. It looks like they may have put a little on Herc but nowhere near ready to open. Zeus had about 2 windblown inches.
Opening chair 2 would alleviate some of the pressure on the quad. Yesterday they had to run 1 because the line at the quad was getting long. Saw some interesting loading techniques on the quad too. Still no guidance from lifties there, no sign telling people how to load. It's greatly entertaining...saw one group of three go through the gate staggered...the chair hit the leftmost person first who went flying over to the middle spot...the person in the middle then hit that person and luckily slid to the left. All three sort of clung to each other and managed to stay on. Hard to tell what's going on there, and obviously the weather this year isn't helping anything. |
Part of me wishes they would bring back the Resort Fee
|
Thanks for the update, Billy.
I know very few came out for the job fair, so maybe they are having a staffing issue. Camp, bight your tongue with respect to the resort fee. |
