Does anyone know if those discounts to Whiteface - 50% off non-holiday, Gore - $10 off? and Hunter - 50% off midweek/25% off weekend for Greek Peak Season's pass-holders are somehow no longer in effect??

(Also, this is what I remember hearing about the fatal accident on Zeus back in the 80's. Some guy, for his last run of the night would bomb down Zeus so fast that he could zoom by the bottom of lift 4 and have enough speed to shoot up over that small hill leading up to the beginner slope... and one night he lost it on the Zeus headwall and hit a tree on the edge of the trail.)

Nicely said Frank!!!
FWIW....Ronnies Run was named after a local who passed away after a motorcycle crash. That was his favoritve stash. Also, dude did hit a light pole....as Big D said he would tuck Zues and shoot up the other side, something he had done many times, he didn't make that one.

Keep the GP faith!!

Greek Peak hires new hotel chief
Former manager of hotels in Pa.
takes over operation of Hope Lake Lodge

By SARAH BULLOCK
Staff Reporter
VIRGIL — A new general manager took over Hope Lake Lodge & Indoor Waterpark at Greek Peak Tuesday.
Dwayne Spitzer replaced John Davies who had worked as the general manager at the hotel and condominium complex for about a year.
Marc Stemerman, one of the Virgil resort’s two new owners, said Spitzer had a preferred management style.
“Just with our vision, we thought that Dwayne would be a good fit for where we’re headed,” Stemerman said.
Stemerman and his business partner, John Meier, both from Elmira, bought Greek Peak, including the hotel, water park, ski resort and adventure center, for $7.6 million April 19 through a bankruptcy auction.
Spitzer, of Oneida in Madison County, said he was the vice president of Twin Tier Hospitality, a company that owns 13 hotels in the Sayre, Pa.-area, for the past eight years.
Previously, he worked as the vice president of sales and marketing at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, Oneida County, Spitzer said.
Greek Peak’s future opportunities are what attracted Spitzer to the resort.
“Well, it’s a great facility,” Spitzer said. “It certainly has two owners that are excited and moving forward and I want to be part of that movement.”
Stemerman said that he and Meier did not know Spitzer before he contacted them to offer his services in mid-April.
“Nope. Not at all,” Stemerman said. “He reached out to us. We interviewed him twice. We definitely thought he would help us with our vision.”
No other administration changes have been made at the resort, Stemerman said, adding that the former owner, president and CEO Al Kryger is acting as an advisor to the new owners and his son, Wes Kryger, is overseeing the resort’s operations.
Even though no layoffs have happened or are planned, the resort’s bankruptcy and sale have left employees nervous about their jobs, Stemerman said.
“It didn’t exactly create a sense of stability,” he said. “That’s what we’re trying to undo right now.”
The Krygers had a “lean” staff at Greek Peak, Stemerman said, and more jobs may need to be added in accounting to help deal with the complexities of the resort’s bankruptcy and sale.
The new owners are going through departments, analyzing workers’ talents and “occasionally” making changes, but are pleased with the overall team, Stemerman said.
“I mean, there’s some real superstars up there,” he said.
Spitzer echoed Stemerman’s enthusiasm.
“It’s a great team here and we plan to keep it that way,” he said.

No layoffs???  They let five people go, including two from their accounting department, and Tom Hatfield.

In terms of the new GM, I'm glad to see that he has resort experience, although his company, Twin Tier operates primarily economy and mid-market properties.  Anyone is better than current management.  I hope Dwayne begins by replacing the food and beverage director.  I'm tired of spending $100 for a mediocre meal, and lousy service.

seems they are moving forward with new things. They applied for at least 3 LLC's back in April. It hit the classifieds section of local paper last week.
Also have a TUFF ENUFF challenge scheduled for September 15. Hopefully that will bring in a number of new people to the area and GP not just the local jocks. I think if they can get a few more things like that going, get GP's face out there, make better use of all their assets in the summer, spring and fall when there is no skiing, they may be on the right track. Stuff that Big Al would never have thought of.

Just heard Sam Kryger is leaving Greek Peak to take a position with his old company. An announcement will be coming soon that a new Quad chair will replace 1A this year.  I'm sorry to say but this new chair will only be slightly faster than whats there now.

Both items are great news.  I'm surprised Sam lasted this long with the new owners making personnel cuts.  In terms of the chair, can one assume that the quad is the one that was originally ordered from Doppelmayr?

Re: Greek Peak---SOLD

Kind of a screw up at Greek Peak this weekend. They have  motocross/ATV races scheduled and the NYS Senior Games also had 5k/10k bicycle races scheduled for same area at Adventure Center. I guess someone forgot the other was scheduled and the coordinator for Senior Games just found out Tuesday and scrambled to find another venue/road/area and couldn't so races are cancelled at last minute. Competitors were already here.
Coordinator should have checked with Greek Peak management before Tuesday, for sure, but who in management gave the go ahead without checking?

It's not as if they have a plethora of events scheduled at GP.  What a shame.

So the Coordinator booked a date and should have checked to see if Greek Peak screwed up and booked another event for the same day? That makes a lot of sense.

Re: Greek Peak---SOLD

My understanding is that GP realized the double booking and offered to move the cyclists to the Adventure Center, however, the coordinator for the Empire State Senior Games felt that the amount of traffic on Rt 392 (due the dirt bike races/spectators) would be too much of a hazard to the cyclists time trials.

yeah, in light of the change in ownership I think the coordinator for Senior games should have checked long before last Tuesday. Just in case the new owners knew nothing about this previously scheduled event.

was out at Greek Peak this AM. Those ATV's/motorbikes are really ripping up the slopes. It didn't look good.
On the other hand, the lodge parking lot was half full and lots of folks brought their RV's and camped out in the resort parking lot. Hopefully, the are utilizing area restaurants, shopping, etc.

I'm glad the mountain is being used, but not if they are tearing it up.  I attended the motocross event last summer, and saw little value to GP in return for hosting it.  Most folks either drove in for the event, or camped out in their RV's the night before.  It's hard to tell the impact the event had on the Lodge, as GP also just sold another round of highly discounted rooms on Groupon.

OH GREAT!!!! They are having another one on August 24 & 25. Are they really tearing up the slopes?? Hope they aren't kicking up rocks and destroying the grass. (must say they had one last year and didn't really notice much damage to the slopes - perhaps a lot of the course is through the woods.)
