I'm okay with it, too, but I'm sure certain higher-ups at ORDA are already cutting next year's snowmaking budgets to "bring costs down" and "tighten our belts" (or whatever dumb euphemism we're going to use in the coming years to justify austerity spending and slashed employee salaries). |

Your FIFY implied that ORDA has different priorities than Gore skiers. I think HP replacement is one thing ORDA and skiers can agree on. mm

That will be up to Andrew. I'm betting on more spending, not less. mm

Liftblog has the Bunny Hutch lift being replaced with a fixed grip quad. Is that the one to Bear Den? mm

You inferred it, I didn't imply it. High Peaks has to be replaced, and as a Gore skier, I'm in favor of it. I agree 100% with your last sentence above. I believe the driving force behind the replacement is ORDA's understanding of the importance of Gore.

Actually, I'd rather have a double too because of faster rope speed without as much loss of capacity as you think. I even want it to unload where it does now, before it gets up into the wind. mm

I say put a 6 pack in there to give 2600 skiers per hour the opportunity to enjoy the solitude of the dark side.

Jump Turn Guy said he took a 20% hit, I thought? Your sales guys might not sell as many cars.... Restaurant staff will surely get shafted. I think the ski resort employees are already close to minimum wage, so we'll see how that goes. |

I don't see how prices don't go up.
Unless this is a one and done thing, and the hills lose money for one year. Or we go all in on herd immunity.

Prices of what? Skiing? Usually, when people don't have money, you have to lower prices to attract customers. The "herd immunity" thing continues to be a terrible idea. What is your endgame there? Sacrifice the old people & full speed ahead? I continue to think that we'll be fine by ski season because of a combination of "flattening the curve", social distancing, masks, & a possible vaccine. Ski resorts likely won't make as much money at the bar or with food service, but Gore is gonna be happy that they have all that lodge space and that they built so many decks. |

Hope you are right.
I agree no way are lift tickets going up this year. Which mountains are profitable enough to operate in the black at 50% capacity? I guess the real question is, is social distancing permanent, on-and-off, or once every 100 years. Was not advocating for or against herd immunity.

Who knows?
No one it seems. It’s all a mystery for now. I’m going to remain hopeful that this junk fades away pretty soon but it’s what I want to believe, not anything more. |

Put link to ORDA May BOD meeting on our covid impact to skiing thread.
I'll drop it here too for your viewing pleasure. First 11min is spent debugging connections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwSfkOU5P3U&feature=emb_err_watch_on_yt Just watched it. Nothing said about Gore, nor Whiteface skiing. |

I don't think the mountains themselves will be at 50% capacity. Maybe the lodges. I think, if there is still a virus threat, the social distancing thing will fade to: do your best. Lift lines might be more spread out, maybe there won't be a singles line, that kinda thing. But, like I said, we might be free and clear by November/December, so I prefer to remain optimistic. |
