I took a run up to Killngton to make sure my home is in order for ski season since I haven't been up all summer. While I won't be skiing until after I return from vacation over Thanksgiving, it certainly is looking like winter up here.
I shoveled about six inches of snow off the deck, and it's still snowing lightly. The white stuff certainly is getting me excited.
Had a good time at Kton today. Since I have Ikon, decided it was worth a long day of driving on Sun. In the Boston area tonight but the detour was worth it. Didn't want to drive my NC minivan in VT/NH/MA in snow on Tuesday.
K1 gondola, North Peak Triple, and Snowdon Triple were running. Plenty of coverage on the groomers. Upper mountain stayed in the clouds pretty much all day but except for about an hour right after lunch time, visibility was fine. The trails with only natural snow that were open showed grass and little rocks. Best coverage was the top of Highland off Great Northern.
Per usual midweek, the only crowded section was the last section of Great Northern. Especially when the race teams were doing a final effort before riding Snowdon again.
Groomers were working on Superstar for several hours in the morning.
Was my second day ever at Kton. Far more fun than a year ago.
Monday Dec. 2nd. Ikon pass holder - had to try it out. Stayed in Manchester and drove up in the morning. Conditions were pretty incredible! Stayed warm the night before so it was like Spring skiing in December - everything that was open was soft. Many trails off Superstar, K1, Ramshead and Snowden were open. Had a chance to try out my new (used) Black Majic's - perfect ski for east coast skiing.
Haven't been up there in over 10 years - forgot what a great place it is. Nice staff too.
