Gotta give this one a bump.  Conditions are already quite good and there's a foot in the forecast from Tue-Thur.

Pretty tempted to head to McCauley on wed morning. I know its much smaller than Gore or Whiteface but it's almost close enough to be do-able for a day trip.

Any insight as to how it compares to holiday valley? (McCauley is ~2x longer drive than HV for me).

How are the tree's, enough to keep someone busy for a day? I try to stay in the woods as much as possible.

Trees are nice IMO. Love McCauley.

The trees at McCauley are great and the terrain is fun. It doesn’t really compare to Holiday Valley as far as quantity of terrain or lifts, but I think the quality of terrain is more exciting. McCauley is essentially just one double chair with 6 or so runs off it but it makes for a great powder day.

Thanks for the feedback. Your assessment reaffirms my expectations. It has been my intention for the past few years to stop at McCauley one morning for a half day on the way to VT. I have not been able to make it happen yet. Hopefully they get so much snow the next few days it'll be an easy decision.

My son and I flew over the Old Forge area during his winter break.  Here's the aerial view of McCauley.

Vibe is great there. It's worth 1/2 day.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Griffiss AFB in Rome.  It's my son who's the pilot though.  I just go along for the ride and nice views

Ah nice. I fly out of Cortland, but occasionally make it up that way. Unfortunately place I rent from won't let me land at the Old Forge Airport. Neither did the place I used to rent from in Fulton

My uncle has a seaplane based on 4th lake, but it's an expensive bird to fly and I don't have the funds to go in on a partnership with him on it or afford the Mx/Insurance. Plus insurance requires 40 hours of time in type just to get it, which is a lot. Maybe someday....

Showed up at noon and everything skied great. Probably about a foot of fresh with a great base under it. This was Barkeater at 3 pm.

Not the powder conditions in the prior pic...but McCauley continues to ski great.  Be nice to get some fresh snow to fill in the trees again.

Big crowds this weekend meant a whopping 5-10 minute wait for the lift

Any update on recent conditions?  I'm headed there Sunday for the first time. Appreciate any trail recommendations for advanced to expert skiing.  Thanks!

Good timing...I was there today and conditions were sweet.  All the trails are open with powder in the glades.  Though the mountain report says 5 inches in the last 5 days, the liftie said it was probably closer to 10 on Tue/Wed.  Snow is in the weekend forecast too so conditions should remain excellent.
