any thoughts on trail count for opening day? do you think they will increase nbr of trails?
Trail count is just a number.
Laz is counting on you guys to hike, schralp and post your pics.
Say hi to all for me please!
I do not condone nor recommend hiking to closed trails. With that said, I took this of my buddy last year as we were hiking up to the double side. This was the day after New Year's Day and the day before the double lift was spinning.
Today was amazing and I have to say this mountain is INCREDIBLE. We skied loads of closed stuff, we would have done more but, we don't know the mountain but, ran into some patrol that showed us some routes.
A bonus is that I ran into Matt from this blog though, sadly couldn't hike with him over. I had the kids and I think he was waiting for some of his friends he was with. I for sure what to score a day with him and get him recorded here soon!
This is the 1st time in my life that I have close to 10 days and it's not even Christmas. I say, keep the storms coming.
Sorry that your storm didn't produce much.. Hoping that wet spell becomes a snowy one of course.
I'm at Platty now. The ungroomed surface is "interesting". About 10" of mostly cut up, heavy, set up snow. I kept waiting to auto eject from exerting so much pressure just turning. It was a workout. I found myself turning uphill at the edge of the trail to stop. It was tough for me to link turns together. Disaster seemed eminent with every turn...it was fun! Rock skis are a wonderful thing!
I went to Hunter this morning. I was supposed to ski with a couple buddies. I waited in line to get my pass. I then find out Greek Peak pass holders no longer get a discount. I'll be damned if I'll pay $76 for that shit show. I had a hard enough time shelling out the $61 it would've been with the discount. I texted my buddies and informed them I'd be at Plattekill, $35. They were free to join me if they liked. I would've loved to ski with them, but I couldn't be happier I spent the day at Platty instead of Hunter.
Well, lunch is over, my adventure with the firm snow is over, gonna swap my rock skis for my new skis and rip groomers the remainder of the day. Toodle loo.
I haven't been able to post pics for awhile, shitty phone, but all the pics I took look like Nirvana, it wasn't. I had a real fun day skiing it as best I could. There was plenty of untracked on Northface. The lower angle stuff wasn't too hard for me to ski. Someone under 240 lbs, or even me, on powder skis may have been able to stay on top. Platty's offerings were well worth the $35 admittance, had a blast.
Any day skiing is a good day. Limited trails open, but still found some really fun places to shake out the cob webs.
Probulary need about 6" to open up everything else.
I thought the entire mountain was skiing pretty well today, top to bottom. How were the groomers off the triple?
*That pic is from Saturday afternoon. However, today we just kept moving further ... east I guess and were able to ski untracked all day without hitting bottom at all. It was quite surprising.
