Re: Plunge: The Catskill Beast?

I read somewhere, that a fantasy season from a operators point of view is, Cold and Snowy from Thanksgiving to late March then quick hot rainy melt out.
Nobody makes money in April..

DH mountain biking is like having ice cold beer in January. Enjoyable but not as satisfying as one after  a hard hot day at work..  IMO the climb makes the down hill so much more sweet..

I told you this. I heard if from a Vermont operator who insisted on being nameless.

Personally (I am sure I am in the minority) I would be ok with eliminating another trail to keep expense the same and extend the season. Maybe Mike would too.  At Plattekill that would probably only fly in a season with cold temps and good natural snow.

(Warp you had a blank post on the last page that I removed.)

Hey thanks for calling my protest to your greedy, wasteful idea a dumpster fire.  Again shows me your true character.  Not much like the guy who wanted to talk to me on the phone and talk my ear off for over an hour...   I was fine keeping it all business.  Strange for someone you don't even like.

Anyway, still think it seems wasteful to add extra snow to combat rising temps in the spring.  If we get a cool spring and lot of snow in the winter, you get some more days anyway, even if you have to hike it.  If we get a winter like this, you're always fighting a loosing battle and just dumping more snow in hopes you can get a couple more days.  But maybe it cools and rains to crusts it over and preserve it a bit.  It's all a gamble.  As much as is the natural snow.

Why not just be happy with what you get?  Aren't you all about the natural snow?

Regarding my moderation approach, I'm not sure I really have one. Not really doing any moderation is easier in some ways, IMO it's easier to be consistent.  I just don't have the time to read and evaluate each post.  I've lurked on your forums a few times and it seems you are different person over there, even, measured and well-respected by members.
Our crowd is different.  I'm good friends with the guy who owns the board.  It's a totally different vibe.  I felt like I completely betrayed them by adding that shit here, frankly, where it doesn't belong.  Your crowd is highly resort driven, highly alpine focused.  The crowd there is very much the opposite.

I act according to my audience.
I find this odd. So you change your tune depending on who's listening?? Strange.

I was referring to my level of snark or crassness.  Not my message or ideals.  I'm not a goddamn politician.  Although I will change my position if you prove to me something I don't know, or missed, or I made some kind of error.  Lot's of people on the net just debate and debate with neither side moving an inch.

Obviously when I talk to you, I don't give a crap - I'm as snarky as I can be, and sometime downright mean.  You project that, and it seems you find it humorous.

When someone addresses me fairly civilly, I'm usually pretty civil, not always... but mostly.  I thought my initial remark to this subject was civil albeit a little edgy.

On that other forum, people are really chill, helpful, civil.  It didn't always used to be that way, but we started focusing on that and that's what it became.

I think all of those things about this forum. I'd add that there are some wicked funny people in here as well. Sounds like your other forum is a pretty serious place.

Hahaha!  Serious.  Not really.  Way less serious actually.  Way more into obscure gear review and backcountry skiing.  Way less concerned about getting X number of days.  Way less concerned about skiing steeps or travelling to big resorts.  More focused on making the best of what you can.

Just like Ethan who lives in CNY but doesn't know the state land.  Or Coach who lives in the ADKs but constantly complains about socialism and environmentalism but lives in the biggest park in this state with the biggest forest preserve and the largest area of state land.  Or Sno who lives in some suburb downstate and has no appreciation for rural NY except to mow it down, blow snow and install bubble lifts.  I'm sure they aren't bad people, but they certainly don't fit my idea of what skiing or outdoor rec is all about.  Most of the people at that other place do.  You do for the most part I think, and it's one reason I think you ain't such a bad guy.

WD - let's "do the math" as Peetex would say and see who is smartest.

Let's start with the troll.  Laughs at his own joke... not very intelligent.  S/N = noip.  Stupidest name in the world for a troll.  Zero creativity.  Let's assume he/she has an IQ of maybe 100.  Let's assume he's middle aged, somewhere around 40.  Multiply to get the relative intelligence.  4000.

Camp, well we all know he's not much smarter than Forrest Gump, and if my memory serves me from that story his IQ was around 70.  I'd guess Camp's a little older, more like 50-55.  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say 55.  That puts him a little less than the troll at 3850.  The fact that he clapped for his stupid joke confirms this number.

WD - well you claim to have an impressive resume but you are also older than dirt and have one foot in the grave.  It's probably to the point where senility is creeping in and you are declining in metal capacity.  You also have terrible typing and punctuation, maybe a sign that you are slipping... and this GSS thing... well that definitely knocks you back a few points.  Normally, you might have been a 120, but given your decrepit state, I'd say you are little better than 105.  No idea how old you are, but I saw some pic of you that looked like you were about 35/40 in the early 80s/late 70s, so I'll guess you are around 70.  That gives you a score of 7350.

And me, well I'm 35 and have tested at 145.  So that puts me at a meager 5075.

And for fun, let's throw in Sno.  He's graduating HS early so he'd got to be at least a little above average.  Let's throw him in at 135, just my guess.  He's 17.  Of course he comes in the lowest at 2295.

So no, I'm not as smart as you WD.  But I'm smarter than a delinquent redneck, a brat kid and some transparent troll.

And even the dumb troll and the hillbilly are smarter than the kid...

Isn't a 145 considered a genius? I saw a picture of you and you sure did look special but I had no idea you were a genius. Congrats.  That is impressive.

I took the test on the internet.  It must be right.

Are you insinuating I look autistic or retarded?  Because you can't say that here... it's not cool.

Now see Harv, THIS is a dumpster fire!

Obviously not because this one blew right over your head.

How old are you?  Camp seems smarter than you.  I'm not even sure how you are living and breathing.
