Re: Plunge: The Catskill Beast?

Ethan Snow
Mike, Did you ever read my post regarding the 100k per month spent on energy at hospitals? What about manufacturing plants? Not only do they use a lot of energy, but they produce a lot of emissions. To be sure I had the right numbers, I texted my father who is a manager at Bassett Hospital in Oneonta. I will copy his text word for word.

"Bassett Hospital spends an average of $46,300 per month on electricity, and about 18,300 per month on natural gas. The Health Care Center spends about $25,000 per month in total energy costs."

That is a total average monthly energy cost of $89,600. This number is slightly higher in the winter, and slightly lower in the summer.  Laszlo quoted 20k in energy to glacier NorthFace. That is 1/4 of the energy it takes to run a small 150 bed hospital for a month, or about the same as one week.

Mr. K, you are an engineer, and you claim to have worked "in industry" for several years. You also claim to be the second most intelegent active member on this forum. Do you have any idea how much energy these industries, and even not-for-prophet organizations consume? You seem to be oblivious of that. For the last 14 pages of thread, you have been acting like 20K of electricity is somehow a ridiculous, unquantifiable number that is going to destroy our environment. It is a drop in the bucket for businesses of that caliber.

I respect your environmental responsibility, and I understand that glaciering a ski slope to ski a few extra weeks is not environmentally responsible. You have every right to voice your opinions in these threads. Now you are deliberately criticizing Me, Harvey, Snoloco, WD, Camp, ML, Coach, and PeeTex, and then expect us to agree with you. That is what I have a problem with.  You are just like every other engineer I know. No social skills whatsoever, and they think intelligence is based on IQ, and age. Just to clarify, I am not an engineer. If I continue my higher education, it will be business related.

I am sure you are very intelligent, and most likely much smarter than me.  But you have no right to be shooting down other members just because you think you are superior to them. What do you think you are going to accomplish? You are certainly not gaining any respect this way. You have been controversial before, but I always respected you, because you went about it professionally. Now I'm not so sure.

Well said, Ethan.

The short version is you're making this place a downer, Mike.

We all have no issues with you voicing your opinions.  But being a bully is not endearing and, frankly, it detracts from your message.

he is entertaining

second, why get angry about what someone posts?  does it reflect on you?  can you control what they think or write?

seems silly to get your panties in a twist over posts on a skiing bulletin board

Thank you Marc

Noip, honestly I am not upset that much. People on the internet can say whatever they want , and it doesn't change my self  esteem. I could care less about him honestly. But he is doing this to a lot of people, and it's just taking away from the fun of this site. That's what is making me a little upset.

I agree with Marc .

Ethan you are indeed an impressive young guy, and what is particularly impressive is not only your Drive but also your EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE which often Trumps  ( no pun intended ) IQ .

But as i think of it , TRUMP has issues in that EQ mode

Wasn't presumed.  I was trying to meet up with Harv so I can get a pair of skis from him.  OK, awesome.  I plan on paying him $50 for the skis, but nothing was every talked about.

Wants to talk to me on the phone.  OK.  Talks to me for a while, seems like a friendly guy.  Tried to coordinate something, wants to talk with me again.  So we have a chat and talk about all sorts of things.  Both these conversation go on for over an hour.  I don't assume we are friends, not really looking for friends, but hey, I thought he seemed like a cool guy and respected a lot of things I really respect.

What pissed me off is he totally flip-flopped that on this forum.  So I got the impression the guy I talked to on the phone was gonna treat me different in front of different people.  I'm not talking like joking around.  I'm talking like taking a side.  I didn't want or expect him to take my side or back me up, I expected him to be neutral or whatever, but he picked a side.  I don't much care for that, so I never responded to any of his emails and deleted his contact info from then on.  Kind of ignored him on his own forum for a while.

If he would have just be up front with me and just kept it to buying a pair of skis, I would have been cool.  I don't talk to people for hours on the phone.  It's not what I do.  Thought the guy was kind of reaching out to me or had some interest in being friends.  Didn't work out and his buddy emails me tells me to leave the forum because of stuff I said.  Eh... These guys want to make it weird, and that's why I just keep bringing back up.

Maybe he'll tell you a different story, I don't know?  Ask him.  I thought the whole things was weird and it continues to be so.

Ask Harv about how he met his wife.  He told me and then says not to tell anyone.  I'm not going to, but who does that?

Don't want your dirty laundry on the forum, don't say stuff in private you wouldn't want heard in public.
