Snow tires, if possible SUV/truck/awd with snow tires. Go day of if you can preferably, everything refreshes all day. Head up on a late night trip if you have to beat the storm, wake up early, get the day in then fall asleep for 12 hours or so after a few celebration beers. I can't say how many times there are windy days and everything is on wind hold the day after.
with this storm, I would prefer day of. The free refills and no lines are a plus. What deters me from waiting til the following day is the slight threat of mixing with sleet in lower NY (catskills). I've done that before - wait til the day after but the storm ended with a wintry mix and the snow has a layer of crust or not longer fluffy.
Day after. Maybe some wind issues, but whether groomed out or not, much more consistent. Visability better. Drive always better. The variability of the snow at least in the East on snow days isn't my favorite. Many many happy day afters though
Thursday is definitely the choice for this storm. It all depends when the storm starts and when the storm ends. In this case, the snow didn't start falling in earnest until after lunch time and wasn't falling at all at first chair. And more snow will fall at many areas after lifts close compared to before (at least here in NH, don't know if that is the case for NY). Additionally, many woods shots may not get hit at all today (or at least minimally and definitely not all of the lines) so Thursday should yield a few runs with total accumulations for many turns if not a few runs. If the storm started at 8am and ended at 4pm, today would have been the day. But 2pm-10pm means Thursday all the way.
New York was definitely on the earlier side it started snowing earlier and is starting to taper off now but I think you're right you made the right call River.
