No shit!! I didn't realize that. I'm actually surprised at that because if anyone knows a lot can happen in 18 holes it should be the USGA.

That's not a bad way to play for the courses we have around here due to the short growing season. One shouldn't be penalized for hitting a fairway. It's fun tho playing courses that are in primo shape --- we have a few of them around here and there's no sense in rolling it around because the fairways are carpet.

No not yet. I'm thinking of joining my club again so if I do that I'll have one for sure. If not I don't have a need for one.

taking green backs sure beats the alternative

I thought you guys bet when you play?  What I find is when someone does not have a ghinn most of the time they underestimate there ghinn.  I play games with a  guy in Albany that does not have one but says he is a 12.  He is probably closer to a 14/15 but whatever.  His cash spends...and he is never on my team.  I  tell him no GHINN no teammate, he thinks I am a dick, which helps cause I know I bother him when I am playing.  My nickname for him is GHINLESS on the course.

I personally haven't played a match since I blew my knee out. I'm getting the itch now to play some tourneys, at least I think I am. There's one of mt fav's coming up next month which is a 2 man BB 2 day tourney ---- your flighted after the first day and play for the cash the second. All flights pay the same. Come to think of it I better send in my invitation soon.

people don't understand how the Gihn system works.  it is based on your top 10 of 20 most recent scores which it then averages those 10 thus you are only supposed to be better than your Ghin 25% of the time.

To me the biggest difference in my performance and why I don't play in a lot our tourneys is that I like to play in under 3 hours and when forced to play in 4+ I don't play nearly as well. I have trouble with my tempo when playing that slow and lose concentration.

I'd like to try the speed golf format where your time is above a time par is added to your score.  I'd rock that.

I actually totally agree.  I admit I suck at slow golf.  Luckily I belong to a club where fast golf is common and possible and I have belonged to other clubs where it is not.  You certainly adapt to slow play over time if its the norm at your club.  On the flip side not everyone is cut out for fast play.  I don't really get a chance to stand around waiting for my heart rate to drop after walking up one of our numerous big hills before hitting a putt.  ideally you want a really low heart rate to be a awesome putter.

Most every time we play it is a 3 dollar Nassau.  press if you are down.  2 dollar junk.  It makes those 4 foot putts interesting knowing you can loose 5 bucks.   I played last weekend.  6-6-6 3 dollar Nassau, 2 dollar junk and lost 45 bucks.  WTF my game came of the track for a month.  I think it was due to a blister on my finger at least that is what I am going with.  Won the PGA Tourny worth 40.  Overall lost 5.   Last night 8 over no bird lots of opportunities and nothing higher than a bogie. Good round for me.

Re: The Golf Thread

I like it alot. I hit it a little farther than my old one which is nice but going back to the stiff shaft has really helped me keep it in play better. I don't seem to lose it to the left (unless I come over the top) like I was (at times) with that reg flex shaft in my old rocket balls driver.

You guys see Furyk shot a fiddy friggin eight  HOLY!!!

I did not see it live and only saw some highlights.  I will watch it someday.  Jimmy boy has been a very high level playing tour for a long time and I love his swing and the fact that he never took a lesson in his life.

Yea, same here. Furyk is the definition of it's not the how but the how many. Too many of us get caught up in the how.

A good buddy of mine is the head superintendent at a golf club in Jacksonville FL where Furyk practices/plays a lot. He always sends me a message saying, "Furyks on the practice range. I'm gonna grab some beers and go help him with his swing". I laugh my ass off every time I get that message from him.

Lake Placid Club has a two man better ball Tourny Saturday Aug 20.  Priced reasonably for both members and guests. Both gross and net.  Call the Club to sign up.

I'm playing with my son and his 25 strokes

You guys watching Olympics golf?  Great stuff

Rules question
The Aussie was in a sandy section of a lateral red marked hazard and played out.  On his backswing and foreswing his club touched a plant in the hazard before contacting the ball.  I thought that is a penalty same as if he touched the sand with his club in a sand trap before hitting the ball.

I am watching. Great battle between Stenson and Rose. Looks like Kuchar has got the Bronze wrapped up. Good stuff.

Are you sure that there were red stakes in that hazard? Because a lot of these Sandy grassy areas just look like waste bunkers, where grounding a club is legal, depending on course rules.
