The ski report is not showing any snow making activity period much less on Upper Northway.  I may win a beer.

Are they done blowing for the year?
As I buzzed by I thought I saw a small sized swhale right down the middle of upper deathway.....  Not 100% but it sure looked like a manAmade shwale.....

Attn: HPD - can you confirm this sighting????
I think that it needs to open for the bet to pay off.  Is there any snowmaking activity going on?  Is the plug pulled for good?  There is nothing on the website indicating snowmaking but that is not always accurate.

Whoa!  Some serious wind slab took me out on Mtn Run right at the intersection of 2200 Road.  the 4-6 inches of pow did little to soften the blow.  Knocked the air out of me.  Been awhile since I hit that hard...  Gonna leave a bruise but I peed no blood, so I'm thinking I'll survive!

Interesting morning on the mtn.  winds continue to rip.  Approach via Cloudspiltter gondi (it was running so add another day to the not on wind hold column) was grippy w/ some wind drifts.  Mtn Run was wind slab and grabbing tips all over the place.  Once it got busted up, it skied nice.

Upper Parkway was good.  Middle skiers right was wind affected pow...  Lower was sweet!

Middle Mac and Lower Mac held the best pow.  about 3-5 inches that was not slabby.

Winds need to abate!!!!
Ditto that!!!

A little rough out there today ... Took a couple of runs off of Little Whiteface and then decided to go up top and check out Skyward, even though I knew it wasn't going to be a great idea, and sure enough ... it wasn't!!! Funny thing was, Niagara was great!!! Nice soft powder (no wind slab) on top of a hard-packed base made for a nice little descent over there.

After that, checked out the Wilmington Trail ... pretty much another mistake!!! After that, called it a day. As someone I know said the other day, "They're all good days, some are just better than others!"

Saw you getting on the Gondi first thing this morning ... tried to catch up with you, but no dice. Some other time.

Just found out from my boy Rob Z that he is throwing a party for WF's snowmakers in the CSL...how cool is that,,,noboby deserves it more.

We'll be skiing Northway this weekend...I betcha...more to come before they r done

Sometimes armchair GM's aggravate me, but for the most part I role with it. When I say, "If Eli threw more deep balls the Giants would win more"...I know I really don't know dick about why they do or don't do what they do or don't. Same way for armchair GMs. It's all pretty harmless. I just wish people would notice more the effort being put into delivering the best possible product even at the end of Feb. we are making snow and opening up more trails. AK is killin it...recognize...its never been better at WF and will only get even better.

Pride and poise
Commitment to excellence
Just deliver baby

Hey sorry to interrupt but is MacKenzie hard as a rock...I'll be working in the area Thursday and may have an hour or so midday.  Was thinking of 4 or 5 Macs...is it worth it?  Did they mow down Wilderness?  My edges are sharp

monitoring the wind holds as I approached the Whiteface entrance, they opened the face lift and little whiteface so I stopped in for a bit.  I am happy I did as I skied Lookout for the first time(although Hoyt's was closed...I was tempted) Lookout Below had some deep pow (interspersed with rock hard bumps).  My fav today was Mackenzie soft and nice.
Whiteface being Whiteface...soooo happy I stopped by

Re: Whiteface Conditions- Feb 23

Lightly snowing all day with no wind.  It was so different watching snow fall straight to the slopes instead of blowing in sideways.

Really nice PP / HP  all day.  No ice just nice carvable snow.  Upper Northway had nice bumps.  HPD was still working the parking lot when I left the bar at almost 5 - Orange coats do work their butts off long after us instructors have called it a day.  Thanks guys for all you do.

Got to ski Hoyt's groomed 3 times.  It skis very different if you ski it on the right and left sides due to the side hill fall lines.   That is one long run - if you can ski it non stop you are a better man than me Guanga Din.

I skied WF on Saturday also. Hoyts was groomed 85% of the way down (with solid bumps at the bottom) and was pretty fun to ski. Lookout below was all kinds of gnarley with craggy angular bumps, which is from what I understand the norm. That was my first time skiing either and was glad to do it. Skyward was a lot of fun and we lapped that a bunch of times. Skied a bunch of the usual suspects like mountain run, wilmington, etc. It was a little crowded in spots, but not terrible for the last Saturday of president's week. I agree with Coach that it wasn't really icy, but you could feel the solid wind-buffed surface below the fresh snow. I wish they could find a way to get more trees open. Overall a solid day out.

Opening of the Slides:

The Slides need quite a bit right now.  Slide 4 is "ok" but 1, 2 and 3 need quite a bit.

Whiteface may allow some small groups if the mountain gets good snow.

Holy Chit today rocked!  8-14 of  consistent dense pow that bonded perfectly to the base!  Skied sweet all day!  And no one was there!

Top 5 day this season 4sure.  Tomorrow is gonna be great as it was nuking on the mtn while it rains in the lowlands!

Yeah but how were the parking attendants? That's what makes or breaks a ski area.  Over in Vermont, the land of milk and honey, they'll show you where to park with a smile and a hearty "how you do!" and give you a friendly little reach around to boot!
