Whiteface Conditions (2014-2015)

The mountain has recovered. Skiing nice. Follow the guns. Gun powder was awesome today.

Upper Skyward and Niagara just opened.

Skyward was excellent today. Rope dropped around 11. Mountain Run was fantastic too, tons of man-a-made. Sitting in the J. Lohr right now.

I gotta hand it to the WF snowmaking crew - conditions on Skyward and Mountain Run were just fantastic.  Some of my best runs of the season so far.

We stayed over in Placid last night after skiing WF.  Didn't plan on skiing today because tomorrow's the kids' first day back to school after the 2 week break, and today's weather wasn't too enticing anyway.  Placid got several (4-ish?) inches of snow starting Saturday afternoon, but temps were in the 40s this morning with off-and-on rain.  The grooming crew will have their work cut out for them when it drops to zero overnight tonight.

Any updates post-Sunday R*in event on how conditions are, how much damage was done, recovery status, etc?

Was supposed to ski this weekend, but am considering waiting until next weekend to come back up based on what I saw this past Sunday on my way out of town.

Im sure they are blowing alot this week with temps - but after two bad events recently (xmas and sunday), it's been rough...

this weekend will be good skiing.  WF actually had a net gain on Sunday's event.  Last two nights no wind so snowtribe is laying it down.

they were calling for destructive winds from last thurs-Sunday and when I skinned to summit Friday and Saturday there was some wind on Friday and zeros as in dead calm on Saturday.  Saturday was an awesome skin.  First crew down Skyward!

Can you tell me about the net gain?   Sunday morning I left the Wilmington area in the pouring rain around noon....
Curious as to what happened after that...

it stopped pouring.  Only came down heavy on the Mtn for about 15-20 minutes.  Very little rain after 2:30 on..  then it went below freezing. then it went below zero.   We did not lose base but actually gained a little over the weekend.  It's been snow showers all week.  Winds are forecasted, but we'll see what really happens.  All in all the last thaw was not bad.  Well all thaws are bad but this one was nothing like the Christmas Eve bombshell.  

Glad to hear it panned out like this - I was supposed to come back up this weekend, but may wait until next for full recovery and then some more snow hopefully to take place...unless I just ski both...damn need to win lottery, quit job, and move north for winter with endless ski budget....

watch NOAA for wind report.  They are calling for strong, sustained winds.

Ditto, Skyward was fantastic, bonus when they had to shut down the guns for repair, a bit cold but the snow was excellent. Wilderness also had great manmade. Left side jumping hoses to ski behind the guns was the way to go.

Was wondering who was in the slides guess I Know now.

Our buddy #14 was up there and skied Saturday ---- said it was the best overall conditions he's actually encountered there. Glad it's getting good for you guys.
