The mission currently appears to be resurfacing
It did look like there are guns staged on the bottom of W trail but it’s going to be too warm for the next couple days to blow.

I'm holding out hope they'll open it up for next weekend, I'm gonna be at Whiteface Friday and probably Sunday. At least there's some natural snow in the forecast.

First key is pix being old is no Drapers.  Then no Gondi.  What is interesting if u look at lookout mt there appears to be a trail of some type about where Hoyt’s currently is.   Don’t remember anything on lookout coming down prior to the build out.   There were trails going up towards summit years ago didn’t think down though

"The new Lookout Mountain Chairlift takes about eight minutes from its base to the summit. It is a short ski away from the top of the Facelift chair. The Wilmington Trail is one of three trails expected to open this ski season on Lookout Mountain.

Two expert trails, Hoyt’s High and Lookout Below, are expected to open later this winter. Hoyt’s High is actually part of the old Cloudsplitter Trail that was part of the original Whiteface ski center that was located in the Marble and Lookout mountain area. The ski center was moved to its current location about midway through the 20th century."

Ahh thanks for that info!  Hiked up the old Marble t-bar line to the junction of the trail that goes down to 86, turning right, then onto Lookup, and then WF when summiting one summer, but did not realize that the old ski area on Marble actually came back over towards the current WF ski area.

Interesting that in addition to the Marble trails, there were additional WF trails from the top of WF towards the Marble side.  So much history there.

If you're interested, this exhibit opened last night at the Olympic Museum in Lake Placid.

I'm not sure but I saw on Facebook someone posted a picture showing ridiculously long lines so that rules it out for tomorrow.

This post was updated on .
Would've been zero lines away from gondola with Lookout open.  Next!!

Looking at the weather forecast there's zero chance of it opening next weekend, so another weekend of driving extra time to other mountains.

I'm not so sure about that.  Thursday looks mild, but good temps the rest of the time.  Go tribe!

All depends on how much snow is still up there from 3 weeks ago and whether they decide to waste valuable snowmaking hours resurfacing Excelsior for the 437th time .

Re: Whiteface Conditions

From the report it looks like it was a shit show today.  The entire Mountain Run area was closed and that means that the Little Whiteface lift also was closed and Freeway would've been open for racing only because Draper's was the only trail off of it reported open.

Sno
Come on
Gore was simply awful today given that we skied together for awhile you have to agree
Not sure if Sagmore ever loosened up but I doubt the Summit did.
Please stop your bitching about W trail.  It’s an auxiliary trail pod sort of like Ski Bowl at Gore and doesn’t make or break a day at WF.  At this point my take is forget about W trail and just blow Hoyt’s

Gore was awful during the morning but got much better after lunch.  I never went up top but I assume it was terrible because everything at the top of the gondola was ice all day no matter what aspect.  If I'm going to be stuck skiing on ice I'd rather do it on more terrain.

I doubt any part of Whiteface except maybe below mid softened today.  This has nothing to do with my disappointment in not having Lookout open.

They can't open Hoyt's without W Trail but I've said this before.  Can't groom the lift area or Hoyt's if there's a thaw freeze.

Grillman
Skyward was nice, Parons better.  3 minutes at the Gondi at 10 am.

Yesterday I never waited more than 10 at the Gondi.  Mostly because I went at the wrong time

I think that the rain last night and the great recovery today shows us why the were smarter blowing deep on trails rather than opening more with poor conditions.

And Sno, approach was groomed too soon and was to tight.  I complain a lot when patrol doesn’t open something, but the right call was made here.   Victoria was nice.

And in terms of grilling.  Yesterday was lamb chops, sausage and duck.  Today was chicken and pork tacos
