Did you guys get snow or something last night because there's no way the summit wasn't all ice or scraped down to it within an hour if they had the same weather as Gore especially since it's so wind exposed.

Not being there my guess is that WF had an inversion warming the summit where Gore was warmer on the bottom than the top.

And to Grillman's point WF's decision to not blow Lookout is looking really darn smart - more snow on what is open right now than having it super thin on more trails like Gore went with.

There was no inversion.

Just awesome grooming on a good base.  Edges were really fat all weekend and even yesterday.

Experienced decisions related to our new normal with climate change are benefitting us.  Snowtribe firing up on deathway late yesterday.  Everything needs resurfacing to get us through.

You would have to be here to know   Parons and Essex/Northway skied well for a long time.  I got off the mountain around 130.  That said I did more laps on Sky than those two combined.  Something is fun about going over the head wall and just skidding sideways picking up speed until you hit the snow.  I get a chuckle almost every time.

Whiteface killed it this year with snow making, focused on trail surface vs trail count.  It also doesn't hurt to have 50 more inches than Gore so far this year.  Gore I feel was a little lazy when it was super cold since they were almost 100 percent open on natural snow.  They were also worried about freezing the lines in the persistent below zero weather.

Just heard they are blowing snow on Wilmington as of now - any chance it's open by this friday?

Doubtful, but that depends on how much natural is there.  It takes 5 days at 24 hrs./day and all available guns - 74 I think.

I would think little to no natural, maybe an ice base in spots...it should be ready for presidents day week ;)

Pretty chilly on the summit this morning. Some good powder on upper Skyward though, toward the skiers left.

Appears they're trying to get Lookout open today.  We'll see if they deliver.

Not sure why they'd waste their time trying to get it open today. Who really cares about skiing a 3 mile long intermediate trail that you have to take 2 lifts to get to. It's already February, so they've already proven that they're incapable of utilizing that part of the mountain during the first half of winter. They may as well just wait until next weekend, and open Hoyts at the same time.
I'll take boilerplate ice over wet snow any day

Where's your stoke Ethan?

I agree they've taken way too long to open it, but as someone who wants Lookout open as much as possible (way more than they currently try and open it), I will under no circumstances say they're wrong for trying to open it a day or 2 early.

Patrol now says Wilmington is too wet and it won't open.  Chair has been running all day so I assume they're setting up the netting.  Looking up from the bottom they need a couple more days of snowmaking to really finish it.

The gondola line was at least 15 minutes all day but there is zero lines on any of the chairs.  It's windy but not really that cold today so I don't really understand why most people just have to ride the gondola, but it's their loss.

Upper Northway and Skyward I think are the best trails today.

JTG4eva!
Wait, what....are you skiing at WF Sno?

Thought for sure you’d be at Gore, or some other place that has their shit together.....

We are booked for a long Presidents Day weekend at WF.  Can’t wait!
We REALLY need a proper roll eyes emoji!!

I went to Tremblant yesterday.  Was going to go to Gore today, but wasn't feeling the extra driving time of half an hour each way.

Whiteface is finally starting to get back in the game.  We'll definitely have Wilmington by next weekend and possibly or even probably Hoyt's.  They should be in good shape for Presidents Weekend.

This post was updated on .
Talked to snowmaker, they aren't going to open Hoyt's because they never finished their trail maintenance and the brush is 7+ feet tall, all so they could build the bar.  Total idiocy!!  You don't sacrifice the best trail on the mountain to build a bar that all the locals pretty much hate and like the old one better anyways.  And same story with Lookout Below.  At least we'll have Wilmington but that SUCKS.

I really don't like the new direction Whiteface is going in.  They are more focused on the side amenities than their skiing product and it shows with not bothering to spend a day mowing Hoyt's and Lookout Below so they could be opened and the fact that nothing on the summit was ever resurfaced while they did it 10+ times on Excelsior.  Like that's the trail people want to ski in the spring.

Re: Whiteface Conditions

Nope, too focused on building a bar than actually preparing their terrain for the season.  Needless to say but I won't be skiing Whiteface on President's Weekend because I won't be able to lap the Lookout chair to avoid lines since Wilmington sends you down to the Facelift.  Gore or Killington I guess.
