I was in the ski bowl lodge grabbing a bite around 11:30. A woman walks in and says to nobody in particular "oh my gahhhd does anyone ever come over here ON PURPOSE?" I couldn't help but automatically reply with a resounding yes. Then she says "why? It's SO FLAT!" Yeah lady it's terrible. Tell everyone you know how terrible it is. Especially if they like the glades. All flats and crappy wet low elevation snow. Yuck.

Danno - hard to believe we missed each other. I heard that lady too. Out by the lift. I thought it was right around 11:30. She asked me the same "on purpose" question.
I told her I was lost, but that the snow was great. She said "Great, really? Where?" I pointed to the mountain and said "over there." D - you been skiing or riding?

Rode for a few hours today. The least amount of grooming I've ever seen. It wasn't a good thing.
Sunway, hawkeye, petegay were the only things groomed that we skied. Good morning though, only a handful of people on the hill, with snow squalls. Sunway, twister, chati, rumor, hawkeye (pick of the day), upper/lower steilhang, hulla, woodout, bear, sunway, work. snow was firm on all ungroomed
The day begins... Your mountain awaits.

If Duck had a freaking cell I would have come back...Best skiing on the mountain hands down. From the sounds of it the Hudson was running again just after the shuttle left. Did one more on Sagamore and then went back to the summit trees. I would have stayed at the bowl...would love it if it's open tomorrow...Mike? Please? Just for sectionals

Guns going on Peaceful Valley and Eagles Nest now according to the website, is this the first time that they have made snow in the ski bowl besides the base area?
ORDA and New England Passholder. If it's fast, it's probably fun.

I think it is the first time that I have seen guns over there. Saw them putting them up on Sunday on Eagles Nest, really rough spot with snirt and rocks. Sadly also saw the ski patrol taking an injured person away from that very spot. They are trying to get the interconnects ready for the holiday week.

WOW! What a day today! Top 10 of the year. Way better than expected. When I realized what this weekend has in store between weather and crowds I figured I would get out for a bit before work...well it lasted much longer than I planned. Up top the trees were fabulous. The snow got thicker and base thinner as you got lower on the mountain. It was still winter at the top but spring at the bottom. And the mountain had something for everyone...Sagamore was a cruiser's delight but I wasn't there for that. Rumor skied really well early but got a little hard later. I thought tomorrow would be strictly a trail day but...and please open Barkeater, it is the easiest way to the bowl (I parked there but the snow is getting thin in the woods) and there is plenty of snow higher up(see please open Barkeater)...so I've heard
They appeared to have gotten a few inches of dense snow since Tuesday and it really helped cover some rough patches. The main trails lower mountain skied well, up top they were pretty icy.

whats wrong with the pipeline traverse?

Another Great Day In Paradise...Gore is in great condition for the holiday week. There is something for everyone. Good crowd today and I was able to avoid it pretty well. Upper mountain woods skied well. I really liked Rumor today, skiers' right, cut off to bottom. Chati glade was surprisingly deep in places. Ripped a few laps on the well groomed Sagamore too. My daughter is a speed freak and I like bumps and trees...We had a great compromise and it went well today.

Yep - Uncas in the afternoon had mild bumps, even Fairview was fun. Both had snow making so the man made pow was great.
Skied pretty hard today. Stayed out of the woods - was afraid the base would be shallow. Sun was out - temps got into the 20s. Shear heaven. BTW - today was a new record revenue day for Gore, business whys this has been an incredible year. |
today I've skied Sagamore with detour to Ski Bowl.
not counting Peaceful Valley which is borderline traverse, Ski Bowl had exactly ONE trail open - Oak Ridge. It was full of death cookies and rocks. I am aware of Skis Bowl hidden value as a sidecountry paradise, but put yourself into shoes of vacationing folk and you will understand why Ski Bowl is being essentially ignored. If one follows goremountain.com conditions page advise and gives Ski Bowl a try, what would he find there today? exactly one trail with scattered rocks and death cookies. |

Just the usual. We still had a lot of hardware on the rack by the end of the day. |
Was nasty up by saddle this morning the wind was so strong my 9 year old could not go forward had to tow her for a while.
The bottom was fine. Still fun to get out. |
Windy and cold for sure yesterday, which kept the crowds in the gondola. Conditions were fast, but you could carve. Got in the woods a little; Darkside, Darby, Mineshaft, & Tahawus were all ski-able but getting a little thin. Sagamore and Echo had cord early which you could just rip top to bottom. When Lies was empty you could do it in about 4-5 turns. Awesome, dry "gun pow" on Uncas made for some nice turns but VERY cold chairlift rides. The mountain is in pretty decent shape, but we'll need some natural since snowmaking ends soon.
Harv- There must be a reason the mountain LOVES to blow so much snow on Uncas. Any insight?

FWIW- When I skied down to my car at around 2 yesterday, the Ski Bowl had more people that I've ever seen there. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun. Skiing, Tubing, X-Country, or just hanging out.
