I can't access that article you reference
You can't both raise min wage and add 12 million more unskilled workers to the labor force. It's pure economics if you increase demand for low end jobs and at the same time decrease the supply of those same jobs you will have serious issues including riots and more demand for welfare etc that we as a country cannot afford. It's the general problem with liberals that they don't understand how economics really works. The way to fix the mess with illegals is to make them all apply for citizenship. Then weed out criminals and undesirables unwilling to work. Skilled and educated get in. The in between could have a probationary period where they could gain an education and skills or work to improve society via community service, working for a church or charity, joining the military etc. they came here illegally so they need to earn thier spot just like the those that came here legally did.

I don't know how to fix it. Just wanted to say your approach coach sounds a tad like slavery.
I do know we need a lot more tax payers to support the baby boomers. those 50 million abortions over the last 30 years cut into out work force quite a bit. |

Try googling "Why upping the minim wage requires immigration reform"

I'm not suggesting not paying them when they are doing this community service. They would be granted welfare etc. they would be earning thier citizenship.
Of course if they could get a legal job and the employer vouched for them them that would qualify as well. We need workers and taxpayers which is the positive as you mentioned. Today illegals mostly work in a "cash" economy and don't pay taxes.

So do drug dealers, cultivators and the Cartel. So do you support legalizing drugs? |

Ok got it thru the Google search
It's point is that two things would happen 1 high min wage would drive an increase in the shadow "cash" economy lowering tax receipts while putting citizens out of work 2 higher unemployment caused by the higher min wage would cause illegals to go home or not come because of less opportunity Totally agree that both of these are consistent with economic theory but neither are a good thing for this country I suspect that Scotty didn't bother to read the article before he agreed with it based solely on its title.

From a purely economic standpoint legalizing pot turns it from a cash economy to a taxable one and eliminates the criminal element.
Harder drugs are just too dangerous and addictive to do this with.

Yes, but you could leave it at those two points which was not my point at all, you failed to continue to connect the dots. All of this needs to start with economic changes, changes in the tax code and the banking/financial systems which allow for the concentration of financial power and therefore political power in the hands of a few.

There is a lot of info in this thread, most I could give a rats ass about, but this I agree with 100%. I don't have a clue how to fix it but somebody better get working on it before we crash and burn. I'll do my part by continuing to work and pay my taxes. |

Did your account get hacked .That sounds like something crazy Bernie would say
And how do you do that without spending us into Greece? My understanding is that Capitalism has been very good to you. You got an education, worked hard and made your American Dream happen. That is what it is all about.

I just don't understand what the fuss is about immigration, it's been a republican talking point for decades. Illegal immigration has fallen off to almost nothing from Mexico. It's certainly not like the Syria issue Europe is facing. And many of them actually do pay taxes and get less services while at the same time corporations love the cheap labor.
I am not scared about illegals stealing my job. It seems like something that needs tweaking and there should be a path to citizenship, not something to riot over, or spend billions on a wall. Like... don't we have real issues to worry about? |

Yes indeed, I had opportunities. I grew up in the 60s, got a great education and could make enough money while I was doing it to have no debt. Had a paper route as a kid, worked in a hamburger shop at 14 for minimum wage. I grew up in a time when there was health care and pensions. Those days are gone and it concerns me Greatly. I had my shot, the ride was great. But now I worry for my grandkids. I and their parents can give them a lot to get them started but with the growing gaps in the system it is highly likely they will not be as well off as any of us. In fact they may have to live in a kaotic society which is ripping itself apart at the seams. Did I get hacked, no. Same old white guy. Just trying to look far enough out to see what some of the risks are.

Grew up in the 80s with similar story. My choice to not have children was greatly influenced by the economic results of unfettered capitalism! Getting real, real competitive out there!!

He did not gave enough votes in his own party to continue. The only way for him to stay was if Crazy Nancy and her crew supported him which I read she was considering doing. Good riddance now we will have someone with the balls to fight the O man
