Not to beat it to death, but I truly believe it agitates the consumer to see a fee added to the bottom line versus an outright pass increase--particularly when it's been GP's past practice to have an all-inclusive pass price. Yes, they do state that taxes, tips, and fees are not included. Am I also supposed to tip?????

I was paying attention to what Wes said, but I could have misunderstood that due to increases in the minimum wage, utilities, and a few other items, a decision was made to add the 4% fee rather than increase the price above the current $399. Maybe there was previously a 4% tax built into the pass price, but I don't believe NY passed that legislation. Maybe they did???

Any other business would call that a price increase due to increasing operating costs. GP adds a "Federal" line item during checkout.

I guess they called it "Federal" to blame it on Obamacare.

I played with the on-line pass purchase system this morning, and it appears that the "Federal" 4% fee applies to everything. Sales tax does not apply to passes or first trax, but it does apply to lockers, Nastar, rentals, and so on.

I purchased our season passes and related yesterday, and the 4% resort fee applied to everything. They bury it on a line item called taxes and fees. I heard a gentleman in line ahead of me grumble about it and ask who's idea it was. He was told it was Marc and John's, and then commented that the two had no experience whatsoever running a ski resort, nor the money to do so effectively. I just chuckled.

We also frequented Trax a couple of times this weekend, and noticed that the fee is included there, as well. I may very well reduce my patronage of Trax, as I have no problems with price increases, but I do with nuisance fees that are not forthcoming. In addition, 4% is added to spa charges.

What major ski resort adds their own made up fee? Vail resorts, Intrawest, Powder, Boyne????

One more thing: Chair two didn't operate this weekend. Not certain why, but this meant even more beginners on chair 1A, which resulted in long rides to the top with all of the stopping, starting, and slowing down.

Greek ski'd nicely yesterday with a dusting overnight and a an inch or two throughout the day, deeper in windblown pockets. low crowds made for lots of fresh tracks in the freshly coated soft cord and we were first down mars with patrol and one other. snow was a little grabby but made for enjoyable mellow  cruising - perfect for a day of skiing with mrs snowbunski. runs of the day were odyssey, mars/skiers right under 5, & trojan.

the end of the bar in trax was mighty quiet...

fees are very silly, although didn't necessarily translate to increases... my wife's same old $4 beer was $3.52 I think before taxes and tags

did gp get anything Saturday night? I stayed up late watching a little blip of LE on the radar in hopes that another event like Thursday would materialize but it looked like it only amounted to a few inches SW of there so stayed put sunday to ski a blue brick. what a difference a day makes following 6" fresh Friday/warm temps Saturday/ mid 20's sat night

What a spectacular day of skiing today with the majority of the mountain open, great grooming, and not a cloud in the sky! I took a couple dozen runs on chair 4 when the high speed express quad backed up due to the number of beginners and children riding that lift, which required it to be frequently stopped and slowed down. Operating chair two may have reduced some of this. Zeus skied well under the bluebird skies. Unfortunately, my day had to come to an end for my drive back home. Let's hope these conditions last for several more weeks.

On an aside, they are back to selling rooms at HLL though Groupon. As I've said many times, what a horrible sales and marketing idea that screams of desperation. Since the hotel obviously can't attract a strong marketing manager, they might be better served hiring a hotel management company to operate the place (and not American Resort Management out of Erie, PA).

Rumor has it that 4/12 will be the last day of skiing this year

Too bad b/c we have wicked amounts of snow left on the hill, but I understand it, just don;t like it

RJ, as for HLL, imo, anything they can do to keep that thing full is a good move on GP's part.
