I may return to GP for the weekend if conditions hold up.
Eh, it's not looking favorable.  Temp swings and snow/rain mixture during the week, and 40's w/ rain on Saturday.

I just looked at the GP webcam and it's looking a bit wet out there; however, the snow seems to be holding up from what I could tell, albeit some puddling.

I was able to get out this morning at Killington for a few turns, but the wind played havoc with some of the lifts. Now it's 40 degrees and raining. Ugh! Oh well, at least I can now get caught up on things.

I was at Greek today, substantially better than what web cam shows. After the rain ended yesterday they got an inch or two of snot that worked out well today. Yes, there were some icy patches, but plenty options to ski around them. Hardly anyone there today, most of the lifts open, Hercules and Mars Hill open.

Looking up Mars Hill

Looking down Hercules

Hello GP skiers.

A buddy of mine is deciding if he should plan to attend a training/exam event at GP in 3 weeks.   He heard rumor that snow making is shut down due to $ issues.

1) any truth to that.

2) will GP have sufficient snow to be 1/2 decent?

I'm sure snow making IS shut down but doubtful that it's due to $$$, and more like the time of year and weather forecast.

We received 2 to tree inches of snow last night ---- calling for rain here on saturday

that's all I dare say. In 3 weeks time who knows what will be on the ground. My gut tells me we'll still be skiing and it will be decent.

Skied Greek, today, Thurs. Snowmaking is not shut down. They are making snow at night. They made snow on Illiad Wed. night and are placing guns to build up mounds in strategic locations.

As an FYI, the resort fee increased from 4% last year to 6% this year on all food and beverage, tickets, passes, and services.

That's great news! These guys will invest that money back into the hill, we all know we need more snowmaking capability

I skied Saturday, and it turned out to be pretty decent, given the temperatures.  Conditions were good in the morning and early afternoon, and then the warmth caught up to it, and by mid-afternoon things were getting sloppy out there.  But, blue skies for most of the day, nice for a change.

I would prefer that they be forthcoming and simply raise their overall prices rather than have the hidden fee. In fact I'd gladly see a 10% price increase than a 6% added fee. In terms of investing in the hill, I hope they invest in snow making. Hopefully this winter served a wake-up call as to how important it is to have a modern system. I can't imagine the owners could find one more improvement to make to Trax.

I'm pleased to hear that the snow held up. I ended up staying at Killington through yesterday, but will likely head back to Greek next weekend.

Hidden??? You put it all over the inrawebz

You don't like the deck either. Guess what, that thing was effin PACKED, the entire thing on Saturday. It kept people there spending money. Money that will be put back into the hill that was neglected for 20+ years, and that's being kind.

Camp - only you would think an increase in a fee that hardly any other ski resorts charge, that you have no idea what it's really for or why it's increasing, is good.

I think Camp hopes the higher fee will keep riff-raff like me away.

I will still never understand why people think that the hill has been neglected, and needs improvements. I'm all for improvements, but it's a great mountain. Snowmaking on both sides of the big runs, and 5 lifts seems like a lot for a 750 vert place. I could see Snowmaking on Arcadian Gate and Olympian being a good improvement, but not urgent. Everyone has a few natural trails. Thats what makes them special. Besides, I skied Olympain on friday, and it was delicious.  Putting more pumps online will increase capacity with their existing infrastructure which they ARE slowly updating. Low-e guns will consume less air, so there will be no need for increased air capacity, in fact they could probably eliminate a compressor. They are already updating their guns as it is.  And they should run more wire so they don't have to use generators to power the fan guns past mid mountain. Diesel is WAY more expensive than the price per KWH in relation to total energy. So yeah, I just listed a bunch of improvements, but that could all be done for about a million. A drop in the bucket compared to what they spent on the resort. They've put way more than that into non-skiing venues. The lifts are great. No need for new lifts. God forbid they ever get a 6 pack. That would kill the vibe. I love those side-entry Halls.
I'll take boilerplate ice over wet snow any day
