Re: Greek Peak Conditions

Dougski
Remember the 1990s when they had grandiose plans to expand Greek Peak East terrain, install a chair 6, etc? That's when the 950 number started appearing. There's still a few wall maps around with these plans. Back when skiing was a growing industry.

Sigh

We decided to ski Greek today. We got a bit of a late start due to the rain, but it was overall a nice day. Some minor brown is showing, but nothing that can’t be repaired.

They blew enough snow for a change to create descent bases. Way to go Sean! The amount of snow on the Fields is quite impressive. We never made it over to chair 5, as Upper Mars was dirt and Lower Poseidon was similar.

Our only gripe was Chair 1A. It started and stopped constantly due to all of the beginners, and not enough people to justify opening chair 1.

After a bite at Trax, we decided to make the trek to Killington (after a stop at Hollenbecks) until the 1st. We’ll be back at Greek in a couple of weeks after they have an opportunity to recover.

Re: Greek Peak Conditions

Anybody out today? I haven't been out teaching skiing since Sunday because of nasty cold/flu that my kid brought home from college 2 1/2 weeks ago. Can't talk and dizzy spells make standing, let alone skiing rather sickening. I actually felt car-sick last Sunday during a coaching session on Boardwalk. Ugh. Am scheduled for teaching tomorrow morning.

 How much snow is left?

Kudos to Greek for opening Mars Hill today. You had to take your skis off on the upper part. About 50 yds, easily skiable if on rock skis. A few bare spots on lower, but easily avoidable. Nice soft groom, it skied great, best snow on the hill. It was nice to get away from all the potential friends, and race kids, that were assembling at the quad.😉

Didn't see that in the ski report!  I went to the grocery store today and stood in the longest line I could find.  And like Greek I was out $150 with no new friends.

Taking your skis off and walking is required, yet the trail is open. And skiing is wonderful. And full price. And knee deep in places

I just looked at the weather map, and it looks like the rain has started in Virgil. Can’t Greek Peak ever get a break!

Rain rain go away.
Was surprised at number of skiers this am. But by 2.00 most were gone as rain rolled in. Two years in a row with rain between christmas and new years.
Ugh.

Yay! At least 4 and 5 were open to avoid the cluster fuck that is the Visions Express Quad. Yeah, I know, kumbaya. And yes, I remember when there were real lines at Greek. Hope you got some sledding in this weekend, forecast doesn't look good.

Amazing to me how you like to bitch about the liftlines at GP. It's a holiday two weeks, it should be expected.
I follow major ski areas on IG. The liftlines shown on there make that line look like a fart in a wind storm. There were even pictures of empty chairs going up. OMG!!!! Can you believe it!!!!????
Killington lost power and stranded skiers for an hour. My God!!! Imagine the outrage.

For the record. There's no way I would wait in that line or anything like it. I'd move to another lift or just be done skiing.

Wishing you and radskier (big d) a better attitude this new year. All this whining is tiresome.
