Re: Hickory Conditions

Just woke up from my after Hickory pass out nap.

I was thinking about Gore today, since it was going to be the "warm" day, but every skier I saw last night asked me about Hickory, so I went.

Another great day, best day at HSC for me in two years.

Everything is covered, all the trails, Paul's Peril and all those little shots that are everywhere are in play.  Whatever fell since last week was consolidated into a foot of some very dense snow, on top of crusty bumps.  Really good skiing all day long.

I forgot how amazing Paul's Peril is. Is there another 800 foot steep pure fall line tree shot in NY that compares?

Great to connect with everyone.

Here's my crappy cell phone pic...

...looking to see if I got anything on the camera.

Yes. the Disconnect (also cut by Paul) to the left of The Hare at Hickory may be the best tree shot in NY and drops about 1000'.

had trouble deciding were to go this morning. figured i could not go wrong with hickory.
when i pulled off the exit in warrensburg i was bummed to see only 2-4 inches on the
parked cars. saratoga got 8 inches so i was expecting at least that. the mountain is
skiing great. it is the best base i have seen in years. hooked up with some locals and
skied the woods all day. if you are adventuress and look around you will find great powder,
even untouched in areas. my guess is that is left over from last storm and not enough traffic
to ski it out. just a great day

Check out a quick instagram clip from last Saturday (2/14). Stay tuned for a little GoPro edit. Conditions were amazing and tons of fun. More pictures to follow soon as well.

Could someone comment on what runs at Gore are comparable to the runs you would see at Hickory?  With all this fresh snow this winter, I'm thinking about taking a trip!

It's tough to make comparisons, but I would say Double Barrell, Darkside Liftline, and maybe an ungroomed Chatimac would be someone accurate comparisons.

I agree that it's tough to compare. Hickory is just rockier.  Seems like Topnotch is rockier and requires more snow than the DS liftline.

And Topnotch is not nearly as rocky as Grand Teton/Upper Beatnik or the final pitch on Winfall with its infamous boulder nests. Good times, good times...

Yeah got my map confused. Seems like far skiers left is the rockiest? I defer to the expert.
