Platte 2/2/15

Platte is calling for a powderdaz tomorrow..I just notice on their cam that they are opened today?
If so, no need to take off work for sloppy seconds..

Just 'cause they might not be open doesn't mean nobody will ski it until tomorrow.  That does look like a lot of activity for a closed day.  Private party?

I was going to go there until I saw the cam. It's not much of a powder day if it's all tracked up.  Thinking of switching it up to Magic since we didn't get to go last week.   I like Plattekills terrain a lot but they are becoming kind of shady.

Agreed.  My brother is thinking Gore, I was going to insist on a foot of untracked at Platty.  I'd rather not drive the extra hour, but without a true Powder Daize maybe the glades are Gore are the way to go.  Hmmmm....

I'm sure Platty will still be excellent tomorrow.

Gore would be a possible option for me if I decide against Magic.

No need to wonder - there are never crowds mid-week at Gore.

I'm thinking maybe Magic, actually.  177 miles to Gore, 167 to Magic.  A little more highway miles to Gore, but each trip is about 2 hours 45.

Just gotta make sure Magic got the goods today....

Skied Belleayre today and staying in Roxbury tonight.  On my way I drove up to Plattekill just to check it out.  Was surprised to see running lifts and a packed parking lot.  Confirmed (in town) that there was a private party today (Monday) - good luck for them!  However, Tuesday's Powder Daize will be more like a Chowder Daize lol!

I still may go there - Plattekill is always an interesting place.

Good for Platty, I'm sure they made as much from the private party as they will from lift ticket sales tomorrow.  They are a business, and I'm sure revenue like that is huge to operations.

However, a packed parking lot today won't make for much of a Powder Daize tomorrow, at least not for me.  I've got limited days I can squeeze out for midweek turns, so when I do it's going to be for a true Powder Daize, or in this case the equivalent at Magic with fresh lines tomorrow.  If I were to ski cut up chowdah tomorrow it would be at Gore, with a bigger variety of terrain and great glades.

Catch you on the next Powder Daize, Platty.

They rent the hill to a church group every year at the end of jan / beginning of February. From what I've heard, they spend as much time in the bar as they do on the hill, plus it was still snowing when the lifts closed. 100 people riding slow lifts is not the massacre you guys are making it sound like.

It looked pretty crowded (for Platt)..Just not worth the aggravation of blowing off work..Also it not a true powderdaize if has been touched..I'm sure the skiing will be wonderful.

There was some Facebook interplay about this and a quick look at the cams when you check the snow report made it clear that they were open today. If you were planning to go and don't know they had skiers on the mountain today you deserve what you get.
