Re: Plattekill Conditions

Ethan Snow
In all honesty, how were things at Plattekill today? Trying to decide if I should go tomorrow. Today was a Woodstream day for the books for me. Lots of great snow with tons of manmade underneath.
I'll take boilerplate ice over wet snow any day

Macker and Laszlo

Chris was on another planet today. He dominated.

Ethan. I don't know about Monday.  Brutal cold aside there is a lot of good snow to work with.  Will be groomers only I am sure.

Anybody skiing today? I bagged it for multiple reasons but curious how it’s going up there.

The ORDA thread had me thinking about plowing and ops.

This weekend I had a chance to see early morning ops at Plattekill.  The first three to show, at 5am are Laszlo, Macker and Matthew.  Laz went right to plowing, Macker and Matt to grooming.

Plattekill has two groomers and six trails with manmade snow right now: North Face, Plunge, Block, Face, The S and PowderPuff.  No grooming was planned Saturday night, at that point we still thought we had a chance for pow.  When it was raining in the morning they made the call to groom, and they basically did the whole mountain.  Plattekill was 100% open for the first time this season.

I think it’s so cool that Laz let you guys overnight there. You may have made the wrong powder day choice but just to know there are owners like that is really satisfying.

Laszlo is unique. He's hard driving and easy going at the same time.  He's open to all kinds of ideas.

What I did is surely not scaleable. I was up at 5 am and I moved my car twice to accommodate the plows.

I had a great time staying over.  I ended up sharing the firepit with one of the snowmaking crew, I think he was a special needs person. Incredibly warm guy. It was a very cool experience, I learned something.

We'll have some Gore pow pics on the front page tomorrow, on Wednesday I'll post my tale.

When there is absolutely no chance you are going to be clotheslined by the rope, it's practically a gilded invite.

If I can get under it with my current beer gut, they must want you to duck it

Walk in the door and a fellow Platty enthusiast offers me a ticket voucher. My 12 yr old would have skied for free
