How are the roads holding up? I'm heading up in the AM. Hoping the crews can keep up through the night. Gonna be a dicey job tonight me thinks.

I've been struggling with that call some today 'Zilla.  Watching the forecast, trying to figure out when it's gonna stop.  I'm partial to Friday because I don't want what would normally be a 2.5 hr drive for me to turn into a 4 hour white knuckle death ride.  The goods will be better tomorrow, but conditions should still be incredible Friday, with nicer weather and a safer drive.  Tough call though....

If this continues the way it is going now the Maine Coon is getting a big can of tuna.

Luckily I am now only an hour away (I moved to the civilized world a few years ago). I am committed to skiing the next 4 days so its just a matter of how long it takes me to get there from Saratoga. The roads on the commute home weren't too bad. It rained all day in Albany and hadn't turned yet at 5pm. Once north of the twins it turned to frozen glop. Roads were a little dicey with a rain, frozen rain, ice mix. I would much rather drive on a few inches of packed snow. The trucks were out in force salting and I think the conditions will actually improve once it starts snowing as long as the plows can keep up. I may not make first chair tomorrow but I'll be there. Friday should be great too and the weekend will be the icing on the cake.

Just arrived in Montgomery Center, VT. The drive down from the Hinterlands was a little hair-raising at times but not as bad as expected. Lots of blowing snow and drifting. Roads in NVT are a little surfy.

I'd say there is seven inches of fresh, very fine, dense snow on the ground here. You know, the cream cheese variety. In my experience, you can double that for the mountain, though I'm preparing for figuring out what aspects to ski, considering the wind.

I'll take it.

Looks like this thing tracked north like I wanted it to.  We didn't get much r*in at all, but the threat of lightning closed Creek at 4pm, so I didn't go.  I'm going Friday to see how it held up.  There is no way that if the r*in we got was snow, that there would have been nearly as much accumulation as they got further north.  Hunter got some of the right kind of precip (4-8 inches), but I don't think it is enough for Annapurna.  Westway is more in the cards since it already has base, just needs some fresh snow on top.
I've lived in New York my entire life.

Yup.  Granted it's a great storm, but it looks like we probably wont hit that magical 20" upside.  I do think it could snow until 1am in the mountains though.
Can we get SOME snow?  Please?

In my experience the original NWS call usually shows snow lasting much longer and then when the storm passes through the point forecasts come in line with reality.

Oddly this time Gore and WF are still showing 100% chance of snow tonight and 80% tomorrow. Doesn't seem to make sense.

I'm getting some backchannel grief for being too optimistic, but it's hard for me to see this storm as anything but gold.

Yea - Heavy wet nasty stuff, concrete - peanut butter. Stay away - at least for a few days... Don't bother me - I've got a lot of shoveling to do so I can get out at first light.

You really need a cat Jason.

Too optimistic when Gore had 11 inches reported at closing time? Even if it stopped snowing at 4pm it would still qualify as one of if not the best storm of the year.

I do think this will be the topper but there are (at this moment) two Gore storm totals higher.

One thing that was pretty cool... at closing the total was actually listed as 10 inches and it was revised to 11 right before 6pm. That was something I had never seen from Gore snow reporting.
