Re: Weather Models are predicting a big rain event next Monday

I finally heard why Sandy is "historically unprecedented."  Weather Channel just said that there never has been a Hurricane this late in the year take a left turn into the Eastern Seaboard and it merging with a cold front dropping in from the West.  I now get why this is going to be so bad.  This is like the Perfect Storm from the movie but hitting the mainland.

Looks like the GFS model would be much worse for the Daks than the Euro.  Am I reading that right?  If it hits around NYC and follow the Hudson up to us we could get a Irene replay but with more wind and colder temps.  It that correct?

I found this for the guys considering the WV road trip

Thanks.

In my case, WV is only one of the options. As stated above, I mentioned "WNY, WPA or WV" yesterday. I've also mentioned West Ottawa River to SBR.

I guess if they are going to put out a map with snow above 2500 it should depict an area that actually have hills above that. That part of WNY doesn't and I don't believe PA does either

Psssfff!!! Doesn't matter, maps are pretty, they look good....not everyone can improvise being geographers?  Don't worry, I deal with this frustration almost everyday.

The top of Seven Springs in western PA is 2994 feet, Blue Knob by Altoona is about 3100 feet and Ski Denton is 2500 feet.

This should clear up any remaining confusion:

"...Basically it's the equivalent of drinking a bottle of vinegar and a half gallon of sour milk and then eating a can of sardines left out under the hot blazing sun, and then doing jumping jacks for an hour. Now imagine that storm in your gut and your asshole is New Jersey and the rest of the Northeast."

No joke, we're all seriously fucked next week

You guys seeing store surge up there?  Zelda shopped yesterday and almost all the bottled water was gone.  Alway kinda conflicted about spending a ton on food when the power is  likely going to go out.

Thought this thread should have a map for the record:

Hurricane Sandy

That map of Harv's puts the sweet spot more in the high Allegheny part of WV.  Canaan Valley/Blackwater Canyon/Cheat River country.  Closer to Timberline, Canaan Valley, and Wisp ski areas.  More accessible from the NE than Snowshoe is also.

I ass-u-me everybody knows about Whitegrass and their cool daily report too.  http://www.whitegrass.com/report.html
Keep an eye on it.  Might be the place to be.

The wheelhouse has shifted a bit...

...meanwhile back in flatlander reality, we are in the pre-panic phase...

Gas lines, no water in the stores, atms out of cash...

Whitegrass is definitely a topic of conversation in the back channel.

Harv, it would seem like I'm not the only studying the maps and models.

A few of us that write here are considering going.
