Re: Whiteface Conditions

endoftheline
If WF gets the usual post Nor Easter winds then basically the lifts won't be spinning on anything worth skiing. Thursday might be the best post storm day. Or if say the Racer lift runs on Wednesday, if you have an AT set up, ride up and skin up to the upper Mtn.

We got 30 so far and storming good.  Wouldn't be surprised if we get another 15. Fingers crossed for lifts tomorrow. Stella is a porn Star.

Any word on operational status a WF? Would expect delayed opening, not to mention lift holds.

SJ...How are winds in Wilmington? I'm assuming roads are passable.

Why only 3 lifts open?  Blowing like a cheap 'ho?

Its gonna be one hell of a st paddy day weekend.  Wicked awesome storm.  Stella deliveried!  Still snowing. Clipper coming saturday. We are back in business. Huge thank you to all the whiteface employees who braved the elements and made it to work today. Your dedication is so much appreciated.

I see Lookout is closed. Is that done for the season at this point?

I saw that on the lift report, but I assumed it must be because of wind.

I find it tough to believe they cant open it with nearly 4 feet of natural snow, anyone know the scoop?
Can we get SOME snow?  Please?

Corrected myself....while the conditions report doesn't comment on Lookout being on hold like the Summit, it does have the hold symbol as opposed to the closed symbol.  Hopefully it goes this weekend.

Called Whiteface guest information about Lookout for Friday and they stated no.       Asked if they had enough snow and he said "yes but it was not good before and we have not had time to go up and check it out"      They are bragging about 42 inches but can't be bothered to get Lookout going?    Does it suprise them that skiers want to ski when it snows?    This should be their best weekend in years but Is Whiteface a ski area?      Sounds like they have a skeleton crew buttoning things up for the season.

Hopefully it's just a midweek thing and they'll get it going for the weekend.

I just overheard people talking.  The were commenting on how bad the skiing was yesterday.  Just proof that you cant please everyone.  It was a blast...  but had my troubles. First run launched off valley onto off Broadway, landed and busted a binding.  Had to ski like a wounded bird back to the locker room to get another pair.   About 40 minutes later I was in the same spot saying lets try this again.  Headed over to the racers chair.  Went up and took Parkway down.  Deep deep.  One spot I ran into some pow that was above my belly button and it ripped my ski off.  Took me 5 minutes to find my ski with thoughts going through my head I was going to be there an hour.  I found it down about 4 feet.   The rest of the day went off without a hitch.  mac, wilderness, mountain run and then a walk up to upper mac.
It was to deep to ski in the untracked unless you were on something steep, the cut up skied like untracked.  Lots of gaping going on all over the mountain.  Once this stuff settles down a little people will have a much easier time.

That doesn't sound like a credible answer.

The don't have "time" to send a few ski-patrolers down (literally) three trails?    That sounds like it has to be BS.

To send patrollers down those three trails requires the lift to run, which requires additional staff.  If lift ops staff is an issue hopefully they will be better staffed for what should be a good weekend!
