Whiteface Conditions (2017 - 2018)

Doing a little Hoyt’s poaching I see.  Couldn’t have been that good with the wind crust.  Be careful lately Patrol is suddenly pulling passes.

Yeh skied nice today...didn't realize it was such a far traverse off approach to get to it tho!

Every weekend seems to top the last lately! Lucky to have gotten 2 slides laps on 3 and 4 before they got thrashed. Unbelievably deep, got stuck chest high on 4.

Been skiing WF for many years, but never skied cloud from the top with that kind of coverage. Just awesome.

I ain’t no pass holder!

Hoyt’s was a mixed bag.  The first quarter of the trail and the last quarter were heavily wind affected, with a breakable wind slab.  Not great skiing.  However, the middle part of the trail, skiers left at least, was mostly boot top soft powder.  Some of the trail was protected from the wind.  Well....you did have the tops of those 7 foot weeds to ski over/through!  While a lot of skiers would have struggled with the slabby-crusty parts, the coverage throughout was great.  It would have skied in nicely with traffic.....

Wasn’t much risk of patrol chasing me down.  I went walkabout this afternoon.





Could have bushwhacked to 5 with a couple guys, but 4:00 has come and Hoyt’s was a calling.  

Bad idea?  peeTex’s mom giving birth to him was a bad idea...  becons all the time has all upside, no downside

It must have been a heck of a relief when you got to the top.

Thanks Harv for breaking out the other stuff. Back to conditions. Planning to be up there with my daughter tomorrow and Saturday. How are conditions holding up? Any trees still decent? Not surprised to see slides closed today.

Anyone doing the applebutter or skimeister this weekend?

If I ski this weekend (doubtful) I'll do the Applebutter.  Thems apples are good.

My son is doing the 2 ussa SLs on Saturday and the Skimeister on Sunday in the u70 age class

I was going to ski Gore tomorrow on my way back up to school, but I got a text saying that it was empty at Whiteface and The Slides opened so that's where I'll be tomorrow.

WF was awesome today. Slides were bumped  (which I like as I love moguls). Slides and cloudspin were the picks. Great packed pow bumps on both. Best day at WF I've had in a while.

Slide 2B (or not 2B?)

Running late since I came all the way up from Orange County.  Looks to be low visibility so no slides.  Little Whiteface lift closed again  (wonder what the excuse is today) so it's going to be another summit/lookout day.

Visibility getting better.  Slides a possibility now.
