According to the website, Whiteface is scheduled to open November 29, the day after Thanksgiving. WTF? That will be the latest opening in 10 years. Thanksgiving is late this year, but still. I hope they're not waiting for the RFID gates to be ready.

Thanks, Harvey. Wasn't sure they ended up getting enough snow so skipped the trip. Hope they can take advantage of what they did get and move up their opening date.

It doesn't seem like they'll have RFID on the upper mountain.  Nor the magic carpets.

Would not be surprised to see spot checks at upper lifts to prevent skinners from riding lifts without paying

That's pretty normal for RFID systems in the U.S. based on having gates.  Never seen any RFID checking on magic carpets.

Have heard that with the hand scanners that VR uses, sometimes there are spot checks for upper mountain lifts.  But relatively rare.

What is with Whiteface snowmaking this year? My wife has gone to Lake Placid the last 3 years the weekend after Thanksgiving and each year and at least Excelsior, Essex and Lower Northway have been open along with a number of ways down off the Facelift. This year Thanksgiving is late and it has been cold for the last few weeks and only Excelsior is open?

To be clear I meant the weekend after the Thanksgiving break (this coming weekend)

Great winter conditions Saturday that held up all day.  Whalebacks on Victoria & Essex.  A good number of features set up in the Broadway terrain park.  I think you could ski to Bear Den but not back - I'm sure that's being worked on.

Re. mid-station.....I don't think I've ever heard so many different people utter the word "yurt" in such a short span of time.  Probably one of a few options.
