While Friday’s clipper tracks more to the west than we’d like, current forecast discussions seems to support the idea that any change to rain will be a valleys thing, with 850mb temps staying below 0, supporting 2-4 inches of snow in the mountains?

I agree with that..

The way this is worded confuses me, or maybe I am too optimistic.  From NWS ALY:

SHORT TERM /6 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY/

Thermal profiles support mainly snow north of I-90 to start Thursday night with a rain/snow mix elsewhere, trending to all rain Friday. The higher elevations of the Adirondacks could see on the order of 2-6 inches of snow. Temperatures should rise Thursday night after early lows in the 20s and low 30s and become quite mild on Friday with the persistent southerly flow. Highs should top out well above normal in the upper 30s to upper 40s.

What I have seen in the NWS forecasts support snow up high, rain down low. Forecasts for approximately 2K and up are all snow, below that rain-snow mix.

2-6 inches of slop would do wonders for adhering to any icy base exposed by the scraping of today's new snow in the woods

Here's hoping this thing doesn't track any further west. Would be great if it would come east...a lot.

Current forecasts look like the freezing level for Friday’s event may push closer to 3,000ft., with snow above and a mix below, with uninspiring totals.  Even if summit totals push 4-6 it’s going to be very windy up high....

Still haven’t decided if I’m going to try and ski somewhere this weekend.

Still think the will be  some snow in the mountains.Some sprinkles lower down.It's a weak system.. maybe  2 tenths of a inch of liquid..

Glad to know it ain't a deal breaker

some weak coastal lows this week..they might drop a moderate amount of snow, maybe even a surprise..

Thursday's system now appears to be a all rain event to the boarder..
