Harv should at least open it up from August to just after election day so I can get my pre-ski season angst out by yelling at PeeTex & Z.

I realize that this is merely a regional skiing message board, but Camper, what you did was to amplify anecdotal stuff being said by your local hospital staff that makes it seem like this is all NBD.
Again, not my intent. My point is what is asked of us, the general public, isn't a big deal. Maybe I give people too much credit but good personal hygiene both at home and in the workplace doesn't seem like a big deal to me. My bitch would be my hands are dry AF from wiping down this place 4 times a day.

And your original statement excluded the bit about gathering en mass and the potential for spread from such gatherings.
True. That recently has come about because like most people I try to stay informed. It makes perfect sense.

I just don't feel we need to State Govt or the Fed Govt to tell us we need good personal hygiene. We don't need them to tell us not to gather in large groups. We need them to provide the heath care providers on the front line the necessary equipment, supplies, tests, medication to help get this under control.
Really, if you aren’t trying to come across as downplaying what’s required, you aren’t helping yourself when you keep coming back to position statements like this.

The simple act of hand washing isn’t what’s needed most, but you seem to keep coming back to it as the biggest part of the solution.  You can bet your ass that if Broadway wasn’t dark (just one small example) the theatres, although less crowded, would still have plenty of asses in seats.  State and Local govt’s do need to step in to protect people from their inherent sense of freedom to do what they please, IMHO.  Getting this under control requires more than additional resources on the front lines.  We need to keep the front lines from being overrun.  Italy is the prime example right now of why focusing the battle on the front lines is the wrong play.

Trump took drastic steps earlier than any other administration did in similar situations. Travel restrictions went into affect right away. The Dems states clearly they would not have done that.

The entire world should have closed down all non essential international travel as soon as it became known that there was an outbreak in China.  That might have prevented it from spreading further then just a few countries.  I was saying that weeks ago and everyone thought I was crazy.  I'm sure they'd change their tune today.

So lets look a little deeper at what happens when you send a private boarding school home using Northwood as an example.  There are zero cases of Covid 19 in this area and if they wanted to they could have gone to a lock in and kept all students on campus and out of town.  This little eco system was a safe as could be possible.  Now they send everyone home to all over the country and world.  20% of their student body is international with Europe and China heavily represented where the chances of these kids getting the virus have now sky rocketed.  But if they stayed on campus and one kid gets it and other institutions lead by Harvard have closed the school would have opened themselves up to being sued.  That is what these school closings are all about.  The legal consequences.

Let's now go to sports - playing to no crowds but huge TV ratings as everyone is now at home would have been good for many sports business wise.  They just canceled the Masters.  These guys fly private and live mainly separate from the population.  They are young and healthy so really not a risk at all.  A golf course with no fans on it is a pretty safe environment.  Baseball could have started the season playing from their spring training facilities to even limit how much they travel.
Baseball really helped the country after 911 and it could have that impact again.  People need something to do with all the social distancing time they now have on thier hands.  maybe buy netflix stock and expect a huge baby bloom in 9 months.

There was a study I saw that equates where you get your news with your level of panic - and no suprise if you watch the liberal media you are panacking like poor Willy.

The advise from CDC is still to stay home IF you are sick, wash your hands etc.  It doesn't say that healthy people should lock themselves in their homes with a years supply of TP.  Willy is panicking pure and simple but he is a self proclaimed expert at everything.

As this thread illuminates, he needs to educate himself on previous health crises too.  What fucking media was he watching in the late 80s and early 90s?

Z, you have no idea what I’m doing.

If telling people to get reliable information vs spreading information based on non expert opinions is panicking - then I guess I’m panicking.

I’ve tried to avoid labeling liberal vs conservative except to call out Fox for their personalities minimizing the situation wirh zero expertise to do so - Hannity especially. This is a time for everyone to work together regardless of political affiliation.

You guys can keep saying whatever you want about me - don’t really care. I have nothing else to add to this.

Z: consider this scenario, NWS staff is at WF sitting at a table just occupied by an infected person from Saratoga. Guy goes back to NWS and spreads the virus all over. Healthy athletic kids show little to no symptoms but spread to the rest of the staff. Staff goes home and spreads it to elderly relatives. In two weeks local Hospital has 500 at risk cases who need critical care and no place to put them. That’s how it works.

You need at least 120 proof. Bacardi 151 might be more effective.
