I think there was 15" when I left Monday morning.  I was hoping the roads would be in better shape as I thought the snow would have stopped.  Nope, but fine by me.
Yeh we were up there this past weekend in a 2WD pickup - had to drive that for a reason but obviously not a great idea, was fun trying to get from LP to the Northway on Sunday afternoon...

Hope everyone gets at this weekend...In the Medium Range, it looks like things go tits up. The NE warms up and we will have a couple of R events..

That's a quick flip flop.  You go from telling everyone not to ski this weekend to the exact opposite.

For someone who's been following this stuff as long as you have, I would expect you to realize that it takes way more than a typical early season thaw to actually close a ski area that previously opened.

If Whiteface was open all of December last year (with zero natural snow and much less snowmaking weather than they're getting now) then there's no doubt in my mind that they will be open next weekend.

I hate skiing in r*in, but the forecast does not show it on the weekend.  Of course that's 10 days out and subject to change.  I plan on skiing every Saturday and Sunday, plus my breaks for as long as Whiteface is open.

Currently it looks like a thaw during next week, and a cool down by the weekend.  As of now, it does not appear that Whiteface is making any attempt to expand terrain beyond Excelsior-Valley-Fox and is instead trying to build base depths before opening.  That may be the best decision because they won't have to resurface after the thaw and can go directly to new terrain.

As I said earlier, this seems to be similar to 10-11.  That year started out warm and r*iny, but then got very cold by early December, and almost everywhere was 100% open by Christmas.  I think Whiteface went from WROD skiing on Excelsior to almost everything open from the gondola down in a week that year.

sno you might be right..

looks like around the 10th we should get into a consistent cold pattern...

before that ,the region will have to deal with a couple of rain events that will be followed by light snow...

which is right on schedule for this time of the year...

The Whiteface forecast shows the only r*in event this week, followed by consistent cold from Friday out.

I'm hoping for some quick terrain expansion just in the next 3 weeks, just before I go downstate till mid January.

Was supposed to be a gullywasher today, but it's actually sunny in Potsdam.  Hopefully Whiteface was also spared from the r*in.

First hand report from my dad, who's in LP right now, is that the sun came out, and he sent me a picture showing blue sky.

Forecast says rain later, but I can't believe it's held up this far through the last two days.  It must be pretty warm though still...

We had a Greenland Block Party this weekend at the cabin.  Way more effective than burning skis.
