The ones on the big turn by the community center apartments and the alpaca farm? Those are sometimes the best part of a day at Gore!

(Mostly joking. I've bottomed out really hard on them before.)

I hate when people describe a trail as "skiable".

It's like if a restaurant review said the food was "edible". It doesn't really say anything about what it's like.

"That restaurant? Well, the food was warm, but edible, especially the side dishes"

Not me! I didn't make it to WF last weekend.

I'll be there if that cold ass, icy mountain of yours ever warms up.

Skiable = (in this case) icy as shit.

i always set the bar low for eastern skiing. my usual comments are : it could have been worse or wow, we could have been killed. i can never understand some of the comments are hear on the gondola in regards to ski conditions. on a powder day people will complain about the terrible ungroomed conditions. and on days when even a world cup downhiller will worried about the icy conditions, i'll hear someone say the conditions were fantastic, especially on rumor. go figure.

Back to business. Anyone ski today? Mountain is reporting a 5" surprise. Worth taking a day tomorrow? They only show 3 glades open on the crystal ball report but that doesn't mean much if they drop a bunch of ropes during the day tomorrow.

Obviously they're just trying to expand the gap between them and WF for the ORDA olympics thread.

With apologies to Brian Wilson;

"Everybody go surfing, surfing USA".

That would be the coaching I gave to a Brit ex-patriate from 2:00 PM to 4:10 PM.

All the best.

What a difference a surprise 4-6" of snow makes. The woods were back in play and most trails were skiing nicely with some nice soft snow (excepting a few steeper pitches that were itchy underneath). With the snow and the sun and bluebirds skies, it almost felt like skiing out west.

Danzilla- I hope you went up today!

Should have went up today.  Went during the storm and it was insane.  Ton of snow dropped.  Every run felt like fresh tracks.

Bummer man but I didn't make it. I have a list of excuses but it doesn't matter. I missed out. Whiteface tomorrow. Hoping it will warm up and soften some things up. Then maybe we catch something next Thursday/Friday.

Finally the woods are back. I've been waiting all year for a day like this. Bring your rock skis tomorrow and have a ball.

Re: Gore Conditions

The woods were a bit thin but fun.  Darkside had the best consistency...I think the higher on the mountain the better but Tahawus glades were awesome too.

On the bright side...of the 3 remaining edges, the one that went was the least essential

Looks like they still have quite a bit of life to me.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.
