I'm surprised to hear that Double Barrel and Straightbrook glades were open.
Above freezing?

It looked like they got maybe an inch or so. Above freezing temps are what did the trick though. Snow didn't get super soft, but soft enough to make the crust edgeable.

I am thinking of sneaking up to Gore next Friday/Saturday - is there anything like the ski races this weekend that would make Gore particularly crowded on Friday/Saturday the 21st and 22d?
There are no races on the schedule for this Friday/Saturday and I don't believe any camps are scheduled either. With it being so close to Christmas my bet is the mountain will not be crowded. Bring a raincoat for Friday and sharp edges for Saturday.

Skied gore today... conditions were notably softer than Tuesday’s firm and fast. Everything will certainly take a beating from this storm, but upper mountain will survive for the most part. Lower mountain may be a different story as brown spots were peaking through already. Here’s to hoping for lots of snow after Christmas.

Good on ya Rmbski.

Pics on FB from the mountain today looked very good. It's vexing to be in the flatlands, crazy busy at work, and on your first day off it will be 20 degrees, right after a flooding rain.  The green blob is coming.

Happy to get a few great days in to start the year. The season is just beginning and hopefully after this weekend you can bag plenty of good days. This cycle was bound to happen and hopefully it’s a minor setback in a great season.

I'm not really whining.  Last year was the first time I took what Ullr gave me.  I barely skied in Feb and I killed it in March and April.  I got some really good days in November, only one day in December so far.

I asked about the cam and was told "this week." Not sure what that means exactly since this week is almost over. So maybe that means next week.  Was also told they will let me know. I will post here if I hear something.

One word describes it...BRUTAL
Mother Nature does what she does, now it’s time for the snowmaking investment to show its worth the money. The snow maker employees will be working hard to provide the snow, so please give them a shout out or thumbs up when you see them❄️

Mountain skied 10x better than yesterday.   Remarkable turn around.  Pine knot was a favorite.   Good old pine knot.   Been missing you.

Agree today was pretty great all things considered. Topridge was the best for me - semi-soft in the sun and the new ‘orange’ guns seem to have laid in a nice base, now moved around from the whales that were there last week. Great to see guns running during the day on Uncas, top of Bear, and Sunway.  They don’t seem to have been running them on weekend days as much as they could be.   Good to have high peaks chair back.

Agree re Pine Knot.  Missed it!  It also seems to be benefiting from the new guns.

If they can keep improving on a daily basis as much as they seem to have done today the rest of the week should be pretty good.

Re: Gore Conditions

‘‘Twas the day before Christmas, and not a snowmaker was lurking except for the lone fan gun operating at half capacity at the Saddle....
Today was a regression in conditions from yesterday due to the lack of the sun which helped soften Topridge, I and others were dismayed at not seeing the snowmaking that this system has promised. Hard, fast, and scary rocks and rubble, hidden by the inch of fresh, which must have caused Gore to say no snowmaking needed today
With rain in the forecast for Friday, I find it highly questionable to not be taking advantage of the weather we have now, but obviously that’s why management gets paid the big $$
Merry Christmas, and pray for snow
