Re: Gore Conditions

Went today with low expectations and they beat my expectations. Grooming was very hard and fast and caution was elevated but could get an edge in in most places and we had a good day, 14 runs mostly up top? They did have another gondola issue though, shutting it down for an extended time. Saw 3 guys hiking up ruby run around 11:30 ish when we were on our way down to the saddle for a break  Seems to be too many days with lift issues as has been discussed before. Gondola was back running by the time we went down. Saw guns going on echo and lower headwaters.

Conditions improved a lot today. The groomers did a great job mixing the recent snow with the frozen granular. Every trail skied better than yesterday. Topridge really benefited from the sun and warm temps. North side skied well through the day.

Echo looks like there is a lot of snow on it so hopefully, soon.

Saturday morning half day 830 to 1130.  Couple front side cruisers on courdery felt real good.  Warmer on top on gondi than bottom.

Down a new trail called Pine Knot.    Here’s the thing.  It’s probably been five years and it skied Nice!    Gore can make snow when they want to.   Up the quad to lies and wow it was sweet.   Back up the quad and - see other tread on the stoppage- back to lies.

No way getting back on quad.   Actually not running to up the top ridge triple    Lap down top ridge very good.   Didn’t hit uncas no report.  Back up slow triple over to BR

Access a little rough.  Love that chair.  Echo hard hard surface but lots on snow on the left half.  Not full.   Sags looks like May.

Back to front side for showcase twister then finally wild air again.   Wild air trail of the day.  Nope topridge than early lies.   Tons of snow on rumor.  It will be soon.

Overall gore skied better than expected.  Very good half day on the hill.   If temps hold they will be fine.   About what is expected early January. We just got spoiled in November.   Good to have to hill back.

Oh.  No crowds.   Skied right on the AE2 at 11am.  Try to get that in VT.

Today skied a lot better than yesterday.  Snow falling all day and no lift issues...well maybe the Gondi being down but not that big a deal.  It starting turning around noonish.  We never rode it. Rumor first thing was better than Rumor last thing, for us, just after they switched from the headwall to the cut thru. early afternoon.  Smart move as the headwall was sheared off by late morning.  The lower part skied great right up until we left.  My favorite today was Lies and my daughter's was Top Ridge.  Nice natural snowfall today, a little more will go a long way.  Kudos to the groomers for today's Dear Valley Cord!

So far: What fell is very nice. 2 or maybe 3 inches. Very little sleet, right at the end around 4am?

Little bit here - little bit there, eventually we will have good cover again.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

According to website they are blowing Eagles Nest, Pipeline, and Little Gore trails next....

Nobody is happier than me when all of Gore is connected but I am resigned to that only occuring for one week per year and can’t believe they would prioritize that over Sagamore, which is often my favorite trail.  Broken pipe?

Happy Birthday Harv...Saw you a few times on the mountain today but from the lifts...I had to work so it was a great morning at the gym.  Me and the kid dabbled with the woods but Rumor and Lies became the obsession.  We skied Rumor more than Lies only because of the traverse...Lies was better.  I really want to ski tomorrow but I probably shouldn't

I thought the same that it was weird they aren't moving to Sagamore. The traverse I can see because that connects the north quad and allows for the glades to open. Going to the bowl though before then? Seems strange.

Also, why is NWS Albany normally so late to get on board with forecasts? BUF, BTV, BGM all have have warnings up, yet as there usually is, big hole over the ADK's for such where ALB is the forecast office. Just strange since ALB's forecasts are always so different from BUF and BTV with snowfall.

@Kleetus.  Its not that NWS Albany is late getting on board, the storm today is mostly upslope which favors the NW dacks and up and down the spine of the greens and whites.

Sorry should have clarified. I meant more for the area of Old Forge. As of last night ALB was only showing 4" or so total for the event. They updated eary AM and came into line with BUF and BTV. Always seems like they are late though, especially for OF area. BUF/BTV will be showing a big dump on the Herkimer county line sometimes for a day before ALB will agree with it.

Was there today, really windy and it picked up as the morning progressed. Was on the gondola  around 11 and they had to slow it way down and stopped it several times due to wind. Cabins were really swaying. Went to saddle after getting to the top for a break and ski patrol came in a little later and told everyone that the gondola was now on wind hold and that the north chair and burnt ridge were open. Did 1 run on sleeping bear and two on tawhaus which were in good shape and then finished on an empty showcase. Saddle area and Sunway were pretty wind scoured. Topridge and pineknot were both very good early. Heard that someone had skies blow out of the gondola.

Windiest day at Gore I can remember but everything at the summit skied really well. It was a "private" upper mountain after 11am. TR3 and Straightbrook Chair were running, but the quad was struggling at times. Snow was great. Lower mountain got pretty win-blown/solid by mid-afternoon.
