Yeah I noticed that.  Sunday is going to get cold too.  By the afternoon it says chill of -18 with 20 - 25 mph winds.

My prediction:  Gore will get 30+ inches of snow but because of the cold, the wind, and half of their staff getting snowed in, they never open the lifts and we don't get to ski it this weekend.

Not to worry, the Poma will run

Hard and fast today. Only interesting things of note:

- Chatimac had snow blown on it last night. Full of whales on skiers right. It was skiing OK, but not great today.

- Rumor was open from the goat path down.

- Lots of snow was recently blown on Hulabaloo, but it hasn't been groomed out or open yet.

- Everyone's "favorite" ice flow on Cloud is now covered with snow

- Echo was covered with snow whales and will be in better shape once its groomed out

- Sagamore opened late. Groomers will still working on it at 10am, so today it was a narrower trail than normal. It skied ok, but should be nice if it's groomed again tonight.

Thanks for the update. But to beat a dead horse one more time, why did it take gore weeks to cover up the ice spot? Just a rhetorical question as there seems to be a growing strategy of non transperancy. I've always appreciated mrg's honest, and sometimes brutally honest, assessment of their current situation. That kind of honesty encourages loyalty and tolerance and tamps down anger and cynicism. This probably should be in the orda rant section.

I love Mad's refreshing honesty too, but to compare their report to any other mountain... they have a different model and the owners don't fire people if skier visits are down.

I actually think Gore has take some steps to be more transparent this year. Maybe they read my Solimano interview.

They've had some adversity this year so I understand your POV.

So this looks like its going to be the perfect storm......what I'm hedging on is the planned events at the ski bowl.  Just looked at the Gore web site, and it appears that they have events planned for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

If it hits the fan they way they are saying does anyone know if they will cancel Sunday's planned Nordic event?

I'm assuming that if it dumps the way they are predicting that the Ski Bowl Glade will be open??

Harvey do you have any info on this?

A nordic race does seem a bit problematic.

I don't have any inside info. Nobody tells me anything.

Unless I ask. Which I did.  If I get a response I will post.

If it does open I expect pics. Here in this thread. Please.

"We plan to have the nordic race. If the snow total is large, I would expect all glades to open."

Ski Bowl will be packed, I just hope they don't restrict access to the Hudson Chair.  Yurt will be on lock down.

Something about that Ski Bowl Glad with loads of fresh snow....just can't beat it.  Going to have to risk all and take a crack at it.  I checked the Nordic details and it appears that Sunday's events might not be as extensive as Saturday.

Thanks for the update!

Decent day today but very firm. Got on the hill at 9, got into lot E no problem. Line for Gondola was crazy long, basically none for AE2, so started the day on that.

Today was break in day for my new ski's, a pair of Head Kore 93's. I demo'd them out west and loved them as they carved great and were good in 12" ish of pow but wasn't sure how they would hold up on true eastern ice. Well I sure found out today and boy do they rip. Last pair of ski's I had that held an edge on boilerplate like these were back in my racing days. Anyways back to conditions...

Lapped Showcase a few times and it was decent. Firm but only ice here and there. Moved up top and did a few laps on Lies which was good thanks to the new manmade. Quickly got skied off though leaving the sides the best bet. Hawkeye and Chati were kind of a mess. I commend Gore for blowing on them again but the groom job on Chati was terrible. Top to bottom mini-death cookies/golf balls. Hawkeye was piles of man made followed by patches of boilerplate. Rumor was decent from the goat path. Found out while up top gondi line was so large due to it not opening until 9:30....

Moved around the rest of the day to find Sagamore was a skating rink, Echo had the golf ball groom. Topridge was good. Hullabaloo was OK. Darkside was open and skiied nice as did Tahawus glades.

Lines outside of mid-morning up top and elsewhere were pretty short. Did seem crowded at times but came and went in waves. Very much fingers crossed for the big dump materializing tomorrow and lifts spinning on time...

Dave B in his element.  Echo at 10:30.  Early bird gets the worm.  Others get a slippery traffic jam.

Drove over to Gore today, got there at 8, roads were passable. Got in the line for the quad, not nearly the first but well enough in before showcase turned to chowder. Could find a fresh line most of the way. After that run the chair was practically ski on. It took a lot of time to get the north side open but it happened around 11. Got a good run in Tahawus glades & North Star. Both were early enough to get a clean line through. The rest of the day was spend hopping from glade to glade and my old legs were rubber by 3 so we took our last run.

This was not light powder, there was a some density to it. Face shots could be had with enough speed and commitment.

Lots of people in the snow bank on the access road when I left. There was one "Jerry of the Day" skiing down the road to his car. I wish I took a video of that.
