Re: Gore Conditions

Gore was nice this morning, at least until I left when it started to get windy around 130.. Mostly wet snow over a firm base. Most of the unedgible ice that was around on Monday has softened up.  Nice moguls under the Straightbrook lift below Hawkeye. Hulabaloo skied well. Rumor was the pick of the day.  Mashed potatoes at the loading zones for the North quad and Straightbrook, and the entire base area.

My instructor buddy told me High Peaks may run as early as tomorrow, but Sunday April 7 is the last day.

Do you mean of operations overall? The website says they’re doing Pond Skimming on Saturday April 13.

Even though the melt down has started, there is a lot of snow on the mountain.  I can't imagine they would close that early.

Easter Service is on the 21st I thought they would shoot for closing that Sunday.

Windy as hell and snowing up here.  Tomorrow looks a bit on the cold side.

Word is the HP chair is done for the season. They ran it Sunday and hoped to have it open for Monday, but it crapped out again, and it does not look as if it will run again this year. Sorry for the bad news as the snow on the Darkside has been awesome the last few days.
In regards to the Mt, this was the last week of Mon-Wed ops, which is the usual M.O. at this point in the season.
Come an get it this weekend, as Saturday looks to be a great day!

You are not the only one. I bet fingers are crossed.

Skiing was better than expected today. I didn't think things would soften, certainly not up top. But it did.

Rumor was very skiable, Hawkeye headwall was the easiest I ever skied.  Open Pit was the pick of the day.

Neve and I were going to quit after one last Showcase that turned into three of them.

So Harv, why has not who the Mohicans call, Bone, informed you of the schedule for next week?
Whiteface has in the yellow border on their website that they are closed Mon-Tues next week, but yet Gore has not said boo?
I was at WF today, and their snowpack is nowhere near what Gore has. So the question that we at NYSKIBLOG want to know, hey @goremountain, what is the plan for next week???
Will this be an Echo, a Rumor, or just Lies...?

The website says they will close Monday and re-open Wednesday April 10.  OTOH 60 degrees Sunday and Tuesday and rain Monday. I'm hoping for one more nice sunny spring day, but that looks like a long shot now.

In a few hours it might be worthwhile to log onto the base cam.

Good day of skiing, not quite as soft as yesterday, but very carveable, both days.

Just starting to snow up here now.

Yes.

When we rode it, it was at a reduced speed.

Yes it was slower, but better than not having it running!
Lift 6 is a very, very old lift that has been running for about 50 years, albeit in 2 different forms.
The Darkside is very special to those of us that appreciate what it offers and gives up in it's greatness.
I just want to say, THANK YOU! to Jim and Tom and Gore for going WAY out of your way to provide us with what we all Love...THE DARKSIDE!!!!

I agree wasn't trying to sound ungrateful. Dark Side is like the soul of Gore.

Bone told me she turned 52 years old, two weeks ago.

I have said it before, I will be sad when it is no longer a double.
