Re: Gore Conditions

The cover is mostly good, with some serious slick spots (from the Snoopy rock past Foxlair, top of Cloud Out near Darby). Mostly firm and fast except where there was some blown in snow. Sagamore had nice blown in snow at the top on skier's left, slick on the right, soft spring snow on the lower part.  Rumor, Lies, Lower Stielhang, Hulabaloo, Lower Darby and all the glades were closed. Echo was closed for a U16 race.

Unless there's new snow, it's gonna be warm sunny days only for the rest of the season for me.

I would agree, but I have visitors up for the weekend and will be skiing tomorrow. My expectations are pretty low so hopefully they are exceeded. But the groomers don't have much to work with.

Any thoughts on how long they can keep the mountain open without any new snow?  How long the topridge trails will last to keep high peaks open?

I would say mid-April easy.  A lot of snow on the ground. It just needs to soften.

Next weekend is looking very good.

Sweet.

If that comes to pass, I'll probably go Plattekill Saturday, Gore Sunday.

That would be a really smart move.  Will be warmer in Catskills on Sat

Looking at the temps for the upcoming week, it looks like everything will be back in play.  there is so much snow in the woods we just need a little (and I hate to even say this) warmth.  If the sun would have popped out for longer periods of time today things would have really gotten better...even though what was groomed was really nice.  Bummer Topridge wasn't open while I was there.  The quick rain thaw didn't seem to hurt that bad (except for the hard ice underneath).  It was snowing when I left and most of the day.  4 inches or so.  Keep it coming Summer Sucks

Expectations far exceeded. Hats off to the groomers and Mother Nature. The mountain skied very well today. The summit and dark side were very good early. Sagamore good except the bottom and the few runs I did on the lower mountain were excellent. I had to bail around 1:00 to return to the flatlands, so I don't know how conditions held up.

Re: Gore Conditions

I just looked at the forecast and its calling for somewhere between 8" - 13" of accumulation followed by 43 deg and sunny on Sunday.

SO....it looks like it setting up for Sunday to be a really great day of Spring skiing.

I'm bumming because I know the season's coming to an end and for a person that used to average 40 days a year on snow, the paltry 20 that I'm looking at this year is a bit disheartening.  If I can at least get in one of those perfect days it would go a long way toward easing my end of season blues.

This is snow will go a long way to help in bumping up the yearly snow accumulation tally for sure.

The thought of warm weather on the horizon is just too much for me to handle.....ugh.

Hey I hope you are right, but I thought you needed a few days of melt to get corn.

Whiteface high for Sunday is predicted at 32.  Will probably make the call Saturday night to go Gore or WF.

WF high of 32 Sunday looks like a summit temp, with warmer temps at the base.  Sunday could be a midwinter up top and spring mid down kinda day.  With sunshine and southerly flow it could get real good.  Maybe not hero corn, but still spring-y soft.  On the heels of a good accumulation....I’ll take that!  If I have to ski midwinter pow in the woods all day, well I’d take that, too!  As long as this storm doesn’t shit the bed, this weekend seems like a no lose proposition in the Dacks.  Latest forecast trending a little colder Thursday night and Friday(?), so Gore could do ok, sans the wraparound WF could see Friday night.  Gore might be a better bet for top to bottom warm on Sunday.

We are still a ways from a good corn cycle.

Cats looking like a little accumulation after a lot of rain?  Sunday at Platty is going to be nice, if the coverage doesn’t take a beat down with the rain.
We REALLY need a proper roll eyes emoji!!
