ROFL This thread is a place to be heard by mgmt. My two cents: being heard ... what you say, and how you say it. I think GPP is very even keeled and he listens. Keep an eye out for him this weekend and keep the convo going.

Sure thing Grogo - we'll take our four season passes 15 minutes up the road to Song/Lab. So GP's business plan is dependent on me buying a slice of pizza and a beer? That's one heck of a business plan. Send me the powerpoint. |
You're only 15 min from Song/Lab??

Agree. Unlike our previous owners these guys, without a doubt, are very approachable down to earth fella's ---- shit man, they're just skiers like everyone else on this board. GPP will be a chair 5 for our annual party. I owe him a beer and a veni hotdog. |

Nope. But did you think I'd be going to Song by way of GP? Song takes 15 minutes longer to get to from my house than GP does. 16 according to Google Maps. Let's go back to talking about conditions in this thread. You guys were the ones bitching about he snow conditions, not me. I think the skiing has been fine at GP except for the lack of natural snow. Camp - I hope you're having your chair 5 party catered by Trax. If not, Grogo will get on your case. Planning to blow out of work early tomorrow and spend the afternoon at GP - maybe I'll even poke my head in the bar for a pint. Do I have to socialize with you jackwagons if I do? Maybe Grogo will lend me enough for a slice. |

No, you said you were a local so I was confused how you could only be 15 minutes to Song...now I get what you meant. No no no I wasn't bitching at all and I tried hard to make it clear that I wasn't, I was just offering up constructive criticism as to where I felt GP could improve, that is all. I'm actually glad you brought this back up. I just got off the phone with an old buddy of mine who used to be a groomer up in VT (he called me right out of the blue so I picked his brain). What he said made total sense, and goes along with the lack of natural snow. He explained to me that when there is lack of natural snow the snowmakers will tend to blow snow with high moisture content for better base. When they groom that out it's almost like mowing a wet lawn, and we all know how that turns out, so now it makes sense why (at times) we get those walls of snow in some of our groomers. He went on to say that normally after the base is laid down they'll back off the H20 % resulting in a dryer, easier to groom flat snow. So now I get it....we need POW, as simple as that. And it's on the way It's catered by the A18 Gang, well, those of us who hunt and kill deer any_A_ways. I'm thinking Trax will give us a pass, it's the only Sunday we miss all year and believe you me, we support that place on a regular basis. I'll bet you the till is a couple 2 tree hundo short this week ....If G's in town he'll be over at 5 with us. Your're a funny dude....I'll be there after I get out of work tomorrow, most likely around 6:30ish, so if your around stop in and I'll buy you a pounder. Me thinks you'll fit right in |
You know I have a distaste for negativity towards the original owners, as they put their hearts and souls into the place. Yes, there were some questionable decisions over the years, and the stagnation of the ski area, but it's not as if the owners raped the resort of their finances and were living high off the hog. Wes works seven days a week, Gayle still sells real estate, and Al is overseeing resort projects. If you recall, the prior owners had a fixed quad on order from Doppelmayr. They had intended to pull the trigger on mountainside upgrades, as well. We may not have seen an upgrade to Orien's pub, but the same flood would have resulted in many of the same base area improvements courtesy of their insurance company.
In terms of the bashing of HLL (including some snide comments made by the new owners), most successful ski resorts are able to improve infrastructure thanks to real estate sales (Intrawest, Boyne, Powder, Vail, etc.) Heck that was even Les Otten's original game plan with ASC before his debt load outpaced his real estate (Grand Summit) sales. Remember, if it wasn't for HLL, the new owners wouldn't have the timeshares to sell--nor would they have their share of the revenue from room/share rentals. Rob Katz, CEO of Vail, told me that the average week long vacationer at his resorts will spend $10K to $20K a week on tickets, F&B, rentals, lessons, lodging, and activities. Vail's local season pass holders certainly help, but it's the destination vacationers that allow them to make upgrades. GP needs the folks from NJ, PA, and NYC. |
Oh man it's gonna be good today ---- me thinks everything will be in play

I had surgery on both hands one at a time and I couldn't hold poles at the time after surgery. I got used to riding without them and it made me better. I don't miss them, I like having my hands free. |
