No doubt the one "condition" that is constant is the community at Magic. We want you to love our mountain as much as we love our mountain. I've taken strangers on tours after seeing them look at the map wondering where to go. Some of my good friends were newcomers that I met on the slopes and helped find more of what they were looking for. I recently redirected one father and his son as they were about to take the track out of bounds to Timber Ridge instead of Betwixt / Whiteout. And on March 8, with 30"+ of fresh up top, my buddy Larry and I managed to turn one skier's day around.
Larry and I did our first run and my skis were feeling sticky so I went in to apply some Zardoz. While he was waiting, he took this picture:
The young woman in the picture, looking somewhat lost and uncertain, asked if I knew where there was a bunny slope she could try. Her boyfriend had ditched her to go ski with his buddies and left her with some skis she had never tried to figure things out on her own. She hadn't skied in years and was afraid to go up to the top since she didn't know what she would find there. The Nelson Learning Center was buried in 2' of snow, no way that was going to work. I convinced her that there was a gentle way down from the top and that Larry and I would show her. So Samantha and I rode up together, I assured her that she was not going to have to ski Red Line, she and Larry skied down together and, as you can see, she had a good time doing so:
No reason that anyone should have had a bad day at Magic Mountain Ski Area that epic ski day and I'm glad we were able to save hers. Now maybe she dumps the boyfriend and increases her number of good days in the future.
