This story is pretty unconvincing if you ask me. He claims he made the whole journey in a truck but doesn’t give a good description, changes his appearance en route and picks up a burner phone but doesn’t know where. He’s also traveling with a thousand bucks in his pocket and eventually turns up at an airport, in his ski clothes, which I guess we’re supposed to believe he was wearing all along (even when he got his hair cut?). And of course he can’t explain shit because he hit his head?
I say he was trying to skip out but six days on the road with this nut case was too much for his girlfriend to handle (he probably went off the deep end when he thought he was free and was partying all night in the motels along the way, acting like a douche and tiring her out. It would piss me off too) so she cracked him over the head with something heavy and got on a plane with all his shit, somehow missing the grand he had zipped into his ski pants. This dude woke up with a giant shiner and a world class hangover, on the ground, maybe naked, behind a dumpster, with his ski gear next to him on the ground. So he said “fuck it, I might as well go home to my wife” and came up with his story on the spot, figuring the fewer details he includes the harder it’ll be to prove he’s full of shit. It won’t take long for the police to find out where he bought the new phone or to go over the airport security footage. Probably already done. This is gonna get weirder before we know what really went down.

His story is total BS
How many 18 wheelers headed for Cali pass by WF on Rt 86. Zero. I think someone in Iowa or Nebraska would recall seeing a dude in full ski gear at a truck stop? What about the trucker himself. This is literally the weakest perp story ever presented. This guy is full of shit and is about to get a million plus bill for Sar from NYS

I was trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but sadly, my initial impression from last Friday morning is starting to look like the reality.
Like Z, when I found out he had kids, I started to reconsider whether this was just a "disappearing act", but now, his story is becoming harder to believe with every detail that comes out. I wonder if we'll ever find out the whole story. On the positive side, it's nice to know that if anyone truly did become lost in the mountains here, there are so many people who will put themselves at risk, and work so hard to find them. Hats off to all of those who participated in the search and to all the local businesses and others who so generously supported the search effort. While this one guy MAY be a low-life, it's encouraging to know that so many others are not!

Yep. Respect to you, Scotty, and everyone else who put it on the line. It sure was impressive to see throughout the weekend.

head trauma or no, who the heck would still be wearing their helmet and goggles 6 days later?
And maybe its just a testament to my ongoing finances, but who carries $1000 in cash with them on the slopes? What the hell do you think you're going to need??? I don't carry more than about $12.75 in my pocket on the hill--enough to get a couple cups of season pass holder coffee and a cookie if the urge hits me |

Very descriptive.....almost too much
Sent from the driver's seat of my car while in motion.

Agreed. I tend to even leave my wallet in the car when I'm skiing. But anyway, he was on vacation from Canada, so who knows. It certainly smells a bit fishy!!! |

From a speculating standpoint, this sounds like a likely scenario. A attempt at running away gone wrong or a bender gone wrong |
and now Time has an article on this guy with a snowy picture of......Sun Valley! Go mainstream news!

The trooper major said in his news conf that it they didn’t think alcohol was involved. I heard it from many that this whole group from Toronto were drunk off thier asses the whole week they were in the area.
And who goes skiing with a grand of cash and no id? More likely he had 10 grand and blew it with his bf or gf on his way across the country. Maybe he found out his GF was actually packing extra equipment down there if you get my meaning.
