my buddy and I started that.  Par put longer than the length of the pole.  I guess we were into betting.  On any hole you could call long drive as well.  If it did not land in the fairway it did not count. Sucked calling it and landing it in the pond. You have  to take the bet.

I really believe in the USGA play it forward idea

If you start all new golfers playing the course at the proper distance it makes it more fun to learn.  Nobody wants to take 8 strokes to get o the green.  I started him playing par fours at a distance where he could be near the green in two and gradually made the tee off spot longer as he hit the ball farther.  He playing well from the forward / ladies tees now.  Next year I would think the white tees.

yes i too agree on the play it forward idea especially for those at both ends of the age spectrum or those new to the game .

Saw a neat formula , i think sponsored by the PGA ( could be mistaken on this ) to calculate the number of yards you should be playing based on how far one hits a 5 iron .  The multiplier is 36 , so if you hit a 5 iron 160 yds x 36 = a course that is 5760 yds long . Our local pro told me this is a decent way to figure what one SHOULD be playing and to forget about your ego ;)

Another method he cited was average carry distance with a the BIG stick . SO for kicks since i am now 70 , i started using this and what it amounts to is Gold tees on the par 4and 5's ,, BUT using the BLUE tees on any DOGLEG par 4/5 and the Blue tees on the par 3's . makes for a interesting adaptation as one ages .

Finally broke par!  One under 70 on Lake Placid Club Links blue tees.

I was 2 under going to 18 but I left my approach about 5 yards short and it rolled down the hill.  I was totally on my A game.

Great words to see when you post your score "this score is lower than usual"

The A18 Gang match of all matches happened on Monday

Pro and I took on Racer and #14.....played a $3 Nassau, press when your pissed, with points for high-low, and greenies. Long story short, Pro and I took $5.50 off dem bitches!!!

Good thing Pro shot 65, negated all the times I gave em high

While that was fun, all we talked about was skiing---let's get this party started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone getting the itch??

I know Pro and I are.....may even get out and hit balls tomorrow

Gonna try and get some kind of order back in my game this year....last 3 years has been frustrating. Time to turn that around. First time in many years I feel like putting some effort into this stupid game.

My Monday night league starts on April 21st. Haven't thought about Golf for a while, but the Master's is usually my official cue to start. I'm looking for Tiger and Rory to battle it out on the final day - that would be good TV.

Yep , starting to get the " silly stick " out for some practice lately . . But with the snow load up here. It will be a later start to season by the time this melts and the courses all dry out

Tiger is out...I'm thinking Jason Day might be a good bet if his thumb holds up
