Re: Play it forward

Played yesterday. Kind of slow with lots of tourist in townplaying the wrong tees.  Group in front of my twosome each could not have broke 120 but insisted on playing blue tees.  6500 yards on a links course is just too much golf course for most people.

I had 3 doubles which Is really unusual for me but also hit some great shots leading to birdies.  Was pretty breezy with a non prevailing wind making it tough to club accurately.

Been at Cape Cod for awhile ,so havent played in a couple weeks  Went out today ,  had a 38/41/79  . We played in the rain most of the time so you could get aggressive on approaches since the greens were holding .

Beaucoup standing casual water on the course from the downpours , all 11 ponds were overflowing . The forcast is rain till Friday ugh !!

After yestedays downpours the course was soaked , no roll at all today but had another 79 today. A 40/39  screwed up the last 2 holes with bogeys when par was not out of reach  , but still happy with the round .

Shot yet another 79 this morning , BUT it took an Eagle on the last par 5 to salvage it . We started very early to try and beat the humidity . been playing pretty streaky golf this season for some reason

36 tonight in my league. 2 Bogeys, 2 Birds. Should have been lower. Lipped out 2 other birdie putts and the two par putts. First time I went below 40 all year, though.

Still not there, but when I've got the driver going, the game gets a lot easier.

Nice shooting Matt

Game is so much easier from the fairway

Didn't make any putts today but was hitting fairways and greens for a 75.  Had a bunch of makable birdie putts.  Could gave been a 69

69!

Z
Finally broke 70 tonight with a 69 on the Lake Placid Club Mt. course from the blue tees.  My putt for 68 ringed all the around the cup before spinning out.  Hit it a little too hard but I was not going to leave it short.

I had shot 80 Saturday.  I figured out on the range Sunday what was wrong.  I was taking the club back too far and getting off plane.  It all came together and for some reason I was putting out of my mind today.  Only 25 putts for the round.  On the front 9 I was making long ones and on the back when I missed the green I was pitching to kick in range.  Only two bogies one putt rimmed out and the other I got a terrible lie just off the fairway.  Came back with birds right after both.

I always play well when it's lightly raining.  Love soft greens and I don't mind getting a little wet.  I kept thinking I was going to choke and then kept getting out of trouble with the short game.

Coach, do you play in your Club Championship? I'd think with those scores you'd be pretty competitive in the championship flight, no?

Re: 69!

The club championship is in the fall on a weekend and my son has always had a football game but this he is in middle school now so I'll be free this year to play in it.

I turn 50 next yr so I'm thinking about playing more tourney golf when I don't have to compete with the college kids that can bomb it.

It ain't about bombing it but getting it in the hole. Pro's kid fkn BOMBS it, he's also a PGA Pro. That said my $$$$ is on the Old Man EVERY SINGLE TIME

Re: 69!

For some reason when I play with younger guys that can bomb it it totally messes up my game.  I need a shorter controlled swing to play well.  Watch the big swing of someone with a young back f's up my swing.

I hit my driver 250 to 265.  My 3 hybrid about 210.  An 8 155 and a p wedge about 115.  I hit the ball high with a pretty up right swing with a steep AOA.

My game typically is fairways and greens and a two putts par.  Very few doubles if any per round and a few more bogeyed than birdies.

I think I can be pretty competitive against guys my age or older so I look forward to trying the Sr NYS Am next year.

You may want to play with those bombers to get used to it. If you're looking to play in the State AM, at that level they bomb it ---- for real.

First of all excellent play coach , your consistently low scoring indicates a disciplined and well honed skill set and dedication to  fundamentals and that is what it takes all the while maintaining composure and staying loose . Camp is on target about club championship

Well unfortunTely for me my streak of 6 weeks in the high 70's came to a grinding and fugly halt this week .

Had not played in 10 days , got in with my bro in law and my sons  who are in great shape athletically and in their 40's the last 2 days . They are all are up here on vac . They CAN give the ball a long ride and i completly lost my disciplined and shorter backswing and took it too far back on many shots and my damn scores ballooned into the 88/89 category the last 2 days ....it was ugly

I  Couldnt figure our what in blazes was wrong till the back nine yesterday. It was pretty frustrating and im sure i had too damn much tension in my arms . Had several putts lip out or tease me near the cup .  So now just have to relax and smoothen out that backswing again . When your my age gotta play smart 😉not stoooooopid against them young guns

Just when you start to get over confident and a  little cocky the golf gods knock you down a peg.
I get a kick out of playing with the young guys. Their distance off the tee is impressive. Would have
Loved  to have today’s technology in my 20’s.

Re: 69!

Lost it a little a few rounds but today got the putting stroke back.  My putting key is just keep my eyes over the ball and my grip pressure lite.  Was making puts again and had 4 putts burn the hole while shooting a 71 even par on the LP Club links course.  Could have been way under par if those putts dropped or I didn't get myself in trouble a few times.
