Ive played a few.  Most of the guys I play are in the single numbers.  Pro didn't get to be scratch cause he bogies  a lot of holes.  So taking your example: six birdies, I'm guessing may be he got one double and 4 bogies and the rest pars.  So I would have had a shot at 5 holes.  I get maybe one birdie a round.   I may as well just give him 20 bucks and save myself the frustration.   I know how you play lots of guys play like that up here...and if your a low handicapper why wouldn't you other than the fact the  game probably gets boring.  If I am playing a 5, me being a 12 he is going to beat me 99 games out of 100.  Its the way it goes.  So if you want to have a friendly bet to make things a little exciting he has to give me strokes.  The only legit way is the GHIN system.  When someone does not have a GHIN I can play golf with them but unless I know they well I wont bet.  I enjoy golf without betting but betting makes it even more fun.

If someone shows up with a 22 and shoots lower than 90 they either had there game of the year of they are cheating.  I shoot 85 to 90 and am a 12.  Best round this year 78 worst 103.

drinkers and crappy golfers are not necessary slow golfers. when I am playing poorly I actually play faster, no sense lining up a putt for dbl bogey. I also drink and play fast because I am having fun and don't care about my score.

clueless assholes who think they are good, play slow golf. some guy duffs the ball 20 yards and gets all pissed instead of taking the same club walking quickly to the ball and hitting it again. they also line up two footers for dbl or triple bogey.

I play with a scratch golfer each week. he is relatively boring. center of fairway, middle of green and 2 putt. not a lot of bogeys on the card.

Works for me.  We can play for a round of beers.  Scotty can pay

Match play evens things out a bit compared to stroke play.  I seldom make doubles but when I was a 12 I made a lot of them so that would be a fairer format with differing HCP if you are not going to use the strokes.  I'm pretty much the boring hit fairways and green and two putt but don't fire at flags guy.

I've played with TJF once.  He is a fast player as am I.  I see him practicing there often.  TJF we should play in the UBU open together.  Only one player can be under a 10 so we'd name a good team with you at a 12.  Plus because I don't drink on the course it's an added advantage.

Well today i couldn't find my ass with both hands and a mirror !

Had an fn terrible round , 4 friggen doubles in a row 2 fn penalties for shots in the drink . It was so damn bad with the silly stick i just started laughing . Then i ran the last 5 at par ended up with a 44 . Only thing working well today was the approach and the second shot on the par 5 .

Funny game , great for last 3 rounds and then today the humbling came

LOL, it's the darnedest thing isn't it --- remember the game was invented by a bunch of drunken Scots --- that always helps me keep it in perspective.

Had my best round of the year on the LP Club Mt course tonight.  2 over 72.  Had one big mistake where I flew 10 green into the new pond.  i made some putts for a change.

They had aerated the greens so I decided to hit the putts starighter and harder which worked well.  With the normal fast greens probably wouldn't have a 72 but to play the course in front of you.  If I would have known the greens were poked I would have played the links instead.

Played the Lake Placid Club Mt Course again today same result 72.

Had 3 tap in birds on front 9 for a 33.  Just missed a 1 on the 8th.  A few other makable putts just came up short.

The ball ended up directly behind the hole and I think it went directly over the hole to one side of the flag

The wind really picked up into my face on the back 9 and there are some really tough holes on the back particularly against the wind.

Saw in Golf Digest that only one quarter of golfers drink beer or booze on the course

Wow. 2 Rounds of 72 in a row, Great Shooting, Coach.

I've been slowly turning it around. 37 in my league last Monday and 43-36 for a 79 at Saranac Inn on Sunday. Best score I've ever had there.

Still making way too many dumb mistakes and bad putts. Had 4 three putts in that 79.

Re: The Golf Thread

Saranac Inn is a tough track.  Nice shooting.

a lot of the game is mental and just not doing dumb things.  Why hit a 3 wood in you cant reach a par 5 in two which is more risky - instead use your "happy" club (for me my hybrid 4) and lay up to a good wedge distance.  Most am's and even pros are much better off hitting a full wedge than trying to hit something 50 or 60 yards.

My mistake on the back 9 yesterday after the 33 on the front was trying to be too agreesvie and going for the 60 something instead of being conservative as I usually do.  I was hitting it so well I figured why not and sometimes you have to push yourself.  I don't regret trying just that I didn't execute as well as I could have.

I really wanted that hole in one - I have not had one yet.

Coach.don't press  it

Aces just seem to happen , my two were strictly really decent contacts with lots of luck , i was NOT going for a hole in one on either occasion .

My respect is more for an Albatross than an Ace . Aces are some skill and alot of luck . ALbatrosses ,well. Those puppys take some serious ball striking skill

Re: The Golf Thread

Just back from a quick nine , a meh 41 , but at least the drives were mostly decent this time ,putting was fine .

Had 2 penalties , fn hate penalties . One was a serious mental error trying to carry long water with the silly stick instead of laying up ......ugh stupid.

The other just hit approach too strong and with these parched conditions, it hit the berm side of a elevated , bunker n berm guarded green and bonked into  the woods off the berm up top guarding the pin .a real oh shit moment .

damn shot felt good off the wedge but hey Robin Williams always says "ya they put a the little flag  there to give ya foookin hope". . Bwa hahahaha, luv that vid .

Right on there!!

I've witnessed two of them. One by Pro2860 and another one by another pro who we used to play matches with. There's a reason they have PGA after their names
