I always get that. GHIN are there to put a fair system in play. Most of the people are not the handicap they have posted cause they take to many 4 footers. I put all my scores according to the rules into the GHINN to have a fair match. there are times I am out of the hole and some one will say pick it up to a five footer. I always take the putt..and I try and make it. I cant post more than a double so if someone is giving me a put for a double I just pick it up. I've played plenty of people who give me shit about not being a 12 and my response is I am a 12 you really aren't a 9. If you want to look cool in the bar with your 9 handicap no sweat off my back but don't wine to me Ill take your money. We always play 2 dollar Nassau and you can press anytime you are down. 2 dollar junk. Birdies, greenies, Poleys and par fives. three hole to play and about 5 different games going is fun as hell. At the 18th we take a total to see what's going on and the who ever is down can make any bet they want. My biggest loss is 52 dollars on a 2 dollar Nassau.

52!! Yep, that's a whoopin for sure.
Similar here, Pro I'm sure remembers, but he holed out for a deuce on 18 one time right after we had given him an 18 timer on the 18th tee box. Damn that one hurt! |

I'm currently at a 5.1 and trending higher. Have been as low as a 2 sometime in recent years but feel like I'm starting to lose some distance off the tee and I don't make enough birdies.
I personally prefer to play match play or skins but I'm not a big betting guy. I play matches with my son a lot for fun. If you guys don't like playing with a Hcp I'm more than happy to not give you strokes and we can play gross. My favorite betting game I played a lot at my previous club I belonged to in Watertown was called putting poker. You had to put a buck into the pot for 3 putts. A one putt earned you a card. At the 19th hole you get dealt as many cards as you earned and the best poker hand took the pot. No HCP and it played even across skill levels as I might hit way more greens than a 20 but it only counted your putts and he might be chipping it closer than I would hit a green from the fairway.

we play 3 $3 Nassau's on Saturday mornings. $2 birdies $1 junk including closest on par 3 and 5's. lots of presses. its a blast. if you play awful you will lose $25 we play coachs putt game during the 9 holes before my Tuesday night league. 2 foursomes. it is fun but slows down play.when we go to resort courses we play $3 for a 3 putt. guys drinking beer and putting fast greens they have never played. those pots are quite large by the end of the day. all in good fun |
Put poleys in. If you make par from outside the length of the flash pole is a junk. Oh yeah and Sandy's

While I get the allure f betting golf it's probably the leading cause of the #1 problem in the game SLOW play. No round should ever take more than 3:30 to play. I strongly feel you should only be allowed to mark and clean your ball once on each green. These jokers that repeatly mark thier putts and line up thier lines only to 3 putt should be castrated. Also no drinking. This is a sport and drinking on the golf course is something I don't ever do. If you want to drink go play horseshoes or go bowling. Slow golf is unforgivable to me.

Ouch Coach!
If I posted in this thread before it was probably some wise ass snark as I'm not a golfer. Too bad really as we do a significant amount in the golf biz and could play some sweet courses and call it work. While the sport doesn't do it for me, it's hard not to be inspired, sitting on the veranda of Kiawah's Ocean Course Clubhouse, sipping Pinot Noir and looking out at the Atlantic Ocean and the 18th. Pretty cool that someone had the vision to put this venue on a piece of real estate that could have been stacked with a few dozen 30M homes. Some incredible golf history here including the 1991 Ryder Cup, 2005 PGA Championship, 2007 PGA Senior Championship, 2012 PGA Championship and it's coming back in 2021. Not a great picture, but quite moment there late yesterday afternoon...

Hey Coach, the USBC National Bowling Tournament doesn't allow drinking
Maybe you should take up bowling |
Maybe you should turn pro Coach, then you wouldn't have to bitch abouot guys drinking beer on the golf course. I mean with scores you put up why not??? Hell one of the last tourneys Pro played in a measly even par won the tourney. That's nothing bro

That call was made by the USGA (Amateurs). The PGA had nothing to do with it! |

National Horseshoe Pitchers Association Section D – Alcohol, Tobacco Products, and Illegal Controlled Substances During the World and State Championship Tournaments, the use of alcohol, any form of tobacco, or illegal controlled substances while in the confines of the courts shall be prohibited for all contestants, officials, and scorekeepers. This rule may also be adopted into any Charter Bylaws or may be enforced at any local tournament, if announced in advance by the Tournament/League Officials. Violations may result in the forfeiture of games. Or horseshoes may be right up your alley as well |

Well THAT explains it and says it all !!
Amateurish handling indeed , make the effin call and dont hold it over the players head throughout the rest of the round geeesh !! Dj handled it well but the call , whether legit or not should have been made at the time of the imagined infraction . Moreover , if the damn rules need changing, then change them ,rather than have this shit occur again

Hey Pro can you explain to Campi why this statement is wrong. You may match up players based on ability but then the higher handicap doesn't have much opportunity to contribute to the team and feel involved. Sandbaggers are usually the ones who don't have a handicap. The system makes it pretty difficult to sandbag. You really have to try to do it and you can smell those people a mile away.
|
We know different sandbaggers. I'm not talking the 9 hole BS league sandbagger either. You CAN NOT have a legit handicap in 9 holes, no way, no how. Golf is 18 holes and mucho happens in all of those 18 holes. I'm talking the sandbagger that shows up to a Pro-Am with a 22 cap or something like that, and in a quota tourney is plus 4 and everyone else in the field is minus whatever. That's the bagger I'm talking about. I never liked league and only played it a few short years. Too many people giving putts and not playing by the rules for my liking. And I'm guessing here, but I'm thinking you haven't played with too many scratch golfers. Believe it or not they make plenty of bogies so a par at an opportune moment is a very important score in a match. (last tourney pro was in he had 6 birdies and was even par) Believe me, I've been in a lot of matches and I've been involved in every one of them. |
