Whiteface Conditions (2017 - 2018)

Gondola closed.....

I really can't understand the operations plan or lack thereof.  First they ran the gondola and nothing else.  Then they opened Mountain Run and the gondola broke down.  They fixed the gondola and reopened it, and then opened Little Whiteface and shut down Mountain Run.  Now they just shut down the gondola out of nowhere and LWF has a big line.  Only facelift has been open all day.  Summit Quad is now turning but not loading.

Operation plans be damned.....best day of spring skiing I ever had.  Band’s is warming up again....

JTG, please be real.  No day is "best day ever" without the summit.  It never opened.  It will open tomorrow, they fixed the lift but never opened it.  It will be warmer tomorrow and there will be less people so tomorrow will be much better.  I'm really looking forward to skiing Sky, Cloud, and maybe even The Slides.  I think tomorrow could potentially be described as "best spring day" at least for this season.

The line for LWF in the afternoon was huge but got shorter as the day went on.  They seemed totally caught off guard by how many people showed up given that they only ever had two lifts open the whole day (and only one that served upper terrain).

They will apparently be open next weekend.  Latest close since 2001 if they do.

Sno, the summit was there for the taking.....you just had to work for it.   Oh, what sweet work it was.  And everything off the lifts?  Yeah, a little sticky low, but WOW!  Great day.  Perspective little buddy, and even without, it was WOW!

 summit looks awesome ...glad you got up there ...makes me wish I'd gone to Whiteface ...some of the best runs happen when lifts aren't running ....it's so rewarding to have earned your turns ...quality not quantity

Drove up  there today ,beautiful day to be outside , amazing crowd this late in the season  lots were jammed left at 12:30

The conditions were great all day.  Anyone who skied today would've agreed.  The problem was the only ran 2 lifts when they were supposed to run 3 or 4.  The lines were as big at LWF as I've seen all year and I was stuck on the facelift all morning so I didn't get anywhere near as many quality runs as I should have.

Another thing that's not a big issue but worth noting is they didn't have any food to sell at mid as they hadn't planned on being open.  Given how many people were at mid on the deck they kissed a bunch of revenue bye bye.

It was a good day for sure.  The summit would have made it better.  It was a bit of a clown car ride with lifts opening and closing Willy nilly and we got stuck on the Gondi for 20 mins.  I think long time WF skiers pretty much just shrugged our shoulders and said it’s Orda business as usual.

Agreed. I was also on the stuck gondola, but it's late April and I'm skiing. I heard they switched from mountain run to little whiteface to close the gondola (or because of the gondola). Lift maintenance was walking the summit chairs with hammers to get the ice off around 2:00pm when I left so I think the lift will run tomorrow. Glad I made the trip.

Awesome day at WF...couldn't ask for a better one. Still debating if I'm done for season, or heading back out next week to give it another go. Rating the day an 11 out of 10 in terms of the spring skiing days I've had over the years at WF.

If you ranked today 11 out of 10, then tomorrow will need to be ranked 12 out of 10 if the summit quad is in fact fixed.

All I know is I had fun, drank a few beers, saw a few friends...all good. Hoping it's a 12 for those there today.

Summit is open

I think this is the best run open in the east today.

There is so much snow everywhere on this mountain.  Skyward headwall is best covered I've ever seen in late April.  Next weekend will still have tons of snow.  Today is the best spring day I've ever had this season or last.
